Selecting genotypes with high nutrient concentrations can contribute to developing biofortified cultivars. This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional potential and indicate genotypes of Vigna unguiculata for genetic improvement based on nutritional traits. Forty-three cowpea genotypes belonging to the Active Germplasm Bank of the Federal University of Ceará were used in the study. The analyses of dry matter, ash, ether extract, proteins, and minerals (phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, sodium, copper, iron, zinc, manganese, and boron) were performed in triplicate. The data were subjected to analysis of variance, means comparison test, genetic parameters, nutritional quality indexes, and the sum of ranks. In Brazilian orchards, there was high variability among cultivated genotypes. On the order hand, high variability allows the identification of superior genotypes for cropping industry. This study aimed to evaluate the genetic variability among 56 genotypes using ISSR (Inter Simple Sequence Repeats) primers. Leaf samples were collected in Pacajus-CE and taken to the laboratory of Molecular Biology postharvest, in Fortaleza. Altogether, 20 primers were used which yielded 148 polymorphic bands (79.57%), enabling the differentiation within the population study. The objective of this study was to evaluate and quantify the genetic divergence between accession... more The objective of this study was to evaluate and quantify the genetic divergence between accessions of cowpea, aiming to identify the characters that most contribute to diversity and select superior parents. Seventy-six cowpea accessions were evaluated using 19 descriptors that were also utilized to estimate genetic diversity using the Shannon-Weaver index. Phenology and production data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and were subjected to Pearson’s correlation test. The descriptors flower color, pod color, and seed brightness showed greater variability in the quantification of genetic diversity. The genotypes Das Almas, Galanjão, selected from CE-13, 7907-Purple Hull and Caupi Branco should be incorporated into cowpea breeding programs as they exhibit desirable agronomic characters. Crossings involving the genotype 7907-Purple Hull with Das Almas and Galanjão are indicated, which could result in obtaining superior genotypes in terms of precocity and grain yield.

Their chemical composition and the way the metabolites are used vary, according to genotype, the environment and the interaction between these factors. As the jatropha is considered a strategic oilseed crop in biofuel production, the aim of this work was to quantify the major reserve components (starch, protein, soluble sugar and lipid) of the jatropha seed and its disposition in the cells during different periods of germination, in order to understand the process of reserve mobilisation and to determine the potentially right time for the extraction of vegetable oil for that species. The experiment was carried out with 11 upland cotton cultivars in a completely randomized blocks design with three replications. Initially, we performed analysis of variance, with the F test at 5% probability for the effect of cultivar as fixed effects as well as block and environment effects as random. Then the values were ordered according to cluster test Scott-Knott, at 5% probability level. The significance of the null hypothesis that all possible canonical correlations are null was evaluated using the chi-square test. The correlations were estimated through the path analysis. By examining the canonical correlations there was dependence between the two groups of variables and therefore it is possible to promote changes in certain characteristics through the selection of others correlated. A espécie possui base genética estreita o que dificulta o processo de lançamento de cultivares. Caracterizar precocemente os genótipos constitui etapa importante no melhoramento da cultura. Objetivou-se com este estudo realizar uma seleção precoce em caracteres morfoagronômicos, predizer o progresso genético de tais caracteres e indicar genitores potenciais para obtenção de progênies. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados com 26 tratamentos e três repetições. As variáveis morfoagronômicas foram analisadas via modelos mistos e o progresso genético obtido pela seleção direta, indireta e índices de seleção. Correction is made by the method of soaking pods and grains in water. This study verifies the need for moisture correction of fresh pods to estimate the yield of cowpea genotypes for production of green grains. Sixteen genotypes were evaluated for pod mass, grain mass, hundred grains mass, grain index, pod yield, and grain yield in two municipalities, Pentecoste and Marco, Ceara State, Brazil. For moisture correction, a sample of ten fresh pods was collected, weighed, and soaked in water. Samples were weighed until constant weight for wet mass. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar morfologicamente as plantas e vagens de diferentes variedades de feijao-de-corda coletados no estado do Ceara que sao resistentes ao pulgao-preto, uma das principais pragas desta cultura. Para tanto, foram caracterizados 24 variedades locais de feijao-de-corda provenientes de coletas realizadas a partir de pequenos produtores, feiras livres e mercados regionais. No entanto, algumas informacoes presentes nos descritores necessitam ser atualizadas e outras adicionadas para que se possa descrever o maximo de caracteristicas. A espécie possui base genética estreita o que dificulta o processo de lançamento de cultivares. Caracterizar precocemente os genótipos constitui etapa importante no melhoramento da cultura. Objetivou-se com este estudo realizar uma seleção precoce em caracteres morfoagronômicos, predizer o progresso genético de tais caracteres e indicar genitores potenciais para obtenção de progênies. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados com 26 tratamentos e três repetições. As variáveis morfoagronômicas foram analisadas via modelos mistos e o progresso genético obtido pela seleção direta, indireta e índices de seleção. This study verifies the need for moisture correction of fresh pods to estimate the yield of cowpea genotypes for production of green grains. Sixteen genotypes were evaluated for pod mass, grain mass, hundred grains mass, grain index, pod yield, and grain yield in two municipalities, Pentecoste and Marco, Ceara State, Brazil. For moisture correction, a sample of ten fresh pods was collected, weighed, and soaked in water. Samples were weighed until constant weight for wet mass. Subsequently, samples were dried in a forced air circulation oven and dry mass was obtained. Finally, a correlation study between the obtained data was performed. Twenty semi-erect genotypes— 15 lines and five cultivars—were evaluated in 37 environments of the Northeast region from 2013-2015.
