Mouse peritoneal macrophages were charged with IgG molecules in monomeric (mIgG), heat-aggregated... more Mouse peritoneal macrophages were charged with IgG molecules in monomeric (mIgG), heat-aggregated (agIgG) or antigen-complexed (acIgG) form. Upon exposure to 37 °C, all bound IgG ligand types are redistributed on the cell surface due to the mobilization of their corresponding Fc receptor (FcR). The major findings regarding the fate of FcR on macrophages bearing IgG ligands are as follows: (a) the FcR involved in the binding of cytophilic molecules has a slow movement on the cell membrane and forms patches but never caps, while the opsonic type of FcR is rapidly capped; (b) the mobility of IgG-binding sites was temperature-dependent and was affected differently by sodium azide; this metabolic inhibitor enhances the disappearance of mIgG from the cell surface but decreases the capping and the disappearance of polymeric ligands; (c) both FcR types are probably ingested when complexed with specific ligand, and consequently, the rebinding of homologous IgG molecules is reduced, the clearing induced by agIgG or acIgG binding being much more extensive; and (d) cells cleared of their opsonic type of FcR are able to regenerate the receptor molecules within 8 h of incubation at 37 °C.

Jahre zuvor wurde ein Colon irritabile diagnostiziert. Ein ins Antrum eingespiesster Zahnstocher (Abb. 1) wird gefasst und extrahiert. Hinweise für ein Passagehindernis fehlen. Die Patientin hatte drei Tage zuvor Gemüserollen gegessen, die mit Zahnstochern zusammengehalten wurden. Es war ihr nicht aufgefallen, einen Fremdkörper verschluckt zu haben. Der Druck setzte 3 Stunden postprandial ein und persistierte seither. Akzidentell verschluckte Fremdkörper passieren meist problemlos [1]. Komplikationen treten im Bereich physiologischer Engen auf, begünstigt durch Länge (>6 cm), Beschaffenheit (Knochen, Zahnstocher, Nadeln etc.) oder Inhalt (Batterien) der Fremdkörper bzw. anatomische Anomalien (Stenosen, Divertikel). Hier empfiehlt sich die prophylaktische Entfernung. Komplikationen umfassen Penetration u.a. in Leber [2] sowie Perforation.

Chemiluminescence (CL) from isotactic polypropylene (i-PP) and several types of polyethylene, nam... more Chemiluminescence (CL) from isotactic polypropylene (i-PP) and several types of polyethylene, namely low density (LDPE), linear low density (LLDPE) and high density (HDPE), subjected to y-irradiation in the presence of air, was recorded in both inert (nitrogen) and oxidative (oxygen or air) atmospheres. CL data can be related to the radiation-induced changes observed in the IR spectra of the polymers. The signal recorded in nitrogen may be accompanied by a thermoluminescence emission, mainly occurring at the melting point of the polymers. The decay of CL emission at 170°C seems to follow second-order kinetics. It could be related to the presence of two types of luminescent species, perhaps associated with free hydroperoxides. The stability of the polymers subjected to thermal oxidation after irradiation is found to depend on both the polymer type and post-irradiation treatments, such as the thermal decomposition in the inert atmosphere of radiation-induced peroxide products. The shape of the CL curves recorded in air from irradiated LDPE could be related to a competition between oxidation and scission. 0 1998 Elsevier Science Limited. All rights reserved 109
