Severity of the disease is manifested by the factor IX deficiency in the blood. Case presentation This paper presents our experience in the cochlear implantation with hemophilia B in an 11-month child with profound sensorineural hearing loss. The patient had normal hematological parameters pre-operatively and surgery was uneventful. After 36 h of the surgery, the patient developed right periorbital ecchymosis, extending to the left eye with a soakage of bandage. With timely early intervention, the bleeding stopped and ecchymosis was resolved. Conclusion To our knowledge, cochlear implantation in hemophilia B has not been reported previously. Cochlear implantation can be safely done in hemophilia A and B with timely correction of deficient factors.

The first year MBBS students are required to perform one hematology practical during university exams (Maharashtra University of Health Sciences). One of the important practical, Differential Leucocyte Count (DLC), was therefore chosen to introduce the OSPE pattern in hematology assessment and study its acceptability and feasibility. Methodology: The study was conducted in the Department of Physiology. 100 students were introduced to OSPE by a short lecture and a role play. Seven important steps (skills) of the DLC practical were assessed. Feedback from students was taken by a questionnaire and from faculty members and laboratory assistant by interview. Results: More than 90% of the students accepted OSPE ...

Research paper thumbnail of Salvaging Cochlear Implant After Suspected Biofilm Infection: Our Experience

Early intervention along with wound debridement, double layer vascularized flap and rifampicin helps in salvaging the implant. Leaving the array in cochlea avoids fibrosis and can be considered for cochlear implantation at a later stage. This novel procedure significantly limits morbidity and repeated surgeries.

Monthly closing value of Nasdaq 100 index has been taken in this research paper to represent the monthly US stock market returns and monthly Consumer price index values to represent the inflation. In this paper, I have taken CPI monthly values as independent variable and stock index value as dependent variable and used one lag percentage differentials value by converting both the time series to analyze the nature of stationary. These tests examine both longrun and short-run dynamic relationships between the stock market returns and the rate of inflation. This paper found that there is positive but not much significant relationship between inflation and stock market returns in US.

In this paperwe have reviewed the useof the suspension system for producing compressed air and AC effectInstead of using engine power for the same purpose. It has been observed that there is an increment in fuel efficiency of vehicle and reduce the NOx nearly about 80% and CO by 70%.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has made an estimate of 60 to 80 million couples worldwide cu... more The World Health Organization (WHO) has made an estimate of 60 to 80 million couples worldwide currently suffer from infertility. The WHO estimates the overall prevalence of primary infertility in India to be between 3.9 and 16.8 percent. Treatment options include Intra-uterine insemination (IUI), ovulation induction, IVF, ICSI, gamete intra-fallopian transfer (GIFT), zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT), cryopreserved embryo transfers and the use of donor oocytes. Since IVF has become an efficient and widely used treatment for infertile couples over the last 20 years, there has been focused analysis about the health of children born after this treatment. Because of the relative novelty of IVF, the follow-up of children born after IVF is still quite limited. IVF is responsible for the increasing number of multifetal pregnancies, multiplicity being an important risk factor for adverse neonatal outcomes due to preterm birth, low birth weight and small for gestational age (SGA).

In this study, a modified procedure for catalase from bovine liver and its properties were reported. Bovine liver catalase was purified to electrophoretic homogeneity as a single protein band around 60 kDa on SDS-PAGE by acetone fractionation, followed by ion-exchange chromatography on DEAE-Sepharose and CM-Sepharose columns. The specific activity of the purified catalase was 79,277 units per mg of protein (U/mg) with 1.87% recovery and purification fold was roughly 60 times. The catalase was a homo-tetramer with a molecular mass of about 240.987 kDa as determined by native gel electrophoresis. The purified enzyme showed the highest activity at pH 7, 37°C, and remained active over a broad range of pH from 5 to 10 and range of temperature from 4°C to 40°C. Its activity was inactivated by incubating in 60°C for 30 min. The activity of the enzyme ...

In-Vitro Fertilization and Embryo Transfer is the most advanced technique of infertility treatment though management of these pregnancies is not that easy as the couples and treating doctors have undue concerns and apprehensions about the outcomes of such pregnancies. Material and Methods: Obstetrics outcomes in the women conceived through IVF and the neonatal characteristics of the live-born infants at Army Hospital R & R were analyzed in this study between Jan 2017 to Dec 2017. results: IVF pregnancies increased the incidence of ectopic pregnancy and multifetal gestation. The rate of cesarean section was also higher in IVF pregnancies. While a large number of cases delivered vaginally, multiple pregnancies and preterm labour were more frequent in the study group. After first trimester they can be managed as a normal pregnancy. Conclusion: Infertility cases are usually older, and this is one of the reasons for increased complications in pregnancy. Multiple pregnancies are the most prevalent complication in these pregnancies. Risk of ectopic pregnancy has been reported to be at least 2-fold higher in In-vitro fertilization and Embryo-Transfer (IVF-ET) pregnancies.

Research paper thumbnail of Ferricarboxy maltose to treat iron deficiency anemia in pregnancy: is it a feasible option?

Intravenous (IV) iron preparations are considered, when oral iron therapy is ineffective or intolerant. Ferric carboxymaltose is an IV preparation that can be given with ease of administration and better tolerated. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of IV ferric carboxymaltose in pregnant mother with all grades of anemia in the second and third trimester. Methods: This is a prospective observational study where 44 pregnant women with iron deficiency anemia [IDA] received ferric carboxymaltose up to 15mg/kg in second and third trimester. The parameters that were taken into account, to assess the effectiveness of the treatment was repeat haemoglobin [Hb] measurements and the subjective sense of wellbeing in the patient. The safety of the drug was analysed by continuous fetal heart rate [FHR] monitoring during the infusion and observa...

Research paper thumbnail of Noninvasive cumulative axial load may induce intervertebral disc degeneration-A potential rabbit model

Recent studies indicate that excessive mechanical loading may serve a major role in the initiation of IDD. The aim of the present study was to explore the effect of noninvasive cumulative axial loading on the intervertebral discs of the lumbar spine using a novel rabbit model. Rabbits in the experimental group were placed into individual tubes specifically designed to force maintenance of an upright posture and were loaded with a heavy collar to increase the intradiscal pressure of their lumbar spine. Radiograph imaging and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed every 4 weeks to provide evidence of disc degeneration. At the end of the experiment, the animals were sacrificed and disc specimens were harvested for quantitative polymerase chain reaction and histological analysis. MRI results revealed significant an...

The present paper intends to conduct a comparative investigation of dividend decisions and payout policies of Chinese and Indian companies. This study have applied Lintner model and find out two important parameters i.e. speed of adjustment and target payout ratio. OLS regression has been applied using two models. These parameters will indicate the fundamental dividend policy of these companies. The reference period for the present study is from the year 2006 to 2013. The difference between dividend behavior of Indian companies and Chinese companies and its implications has been discussed in the present paper. The speed of adjustment of Chinese companies is 0.23 and 0.46 under two models respectively, while the same for Indian companies is around 0.09. It suggests that Indian companies are more conservative than Chinese Companies. The target payout ratio for Indian companies is around 0.40, whereas for Chinese companies it i...
