Limited information is available on the prevalence of TI and its associated factors across Canada. (i) To evaluate factors associated with TI amongst neurologists caring for MS patients across Canada; (ii) to compare the prevalence of TI observed in Canadian neurologists to the prevalence of TI observed in Argentinean, Chilean, and Spanish neurologists (historical controls from prior studies). One hundred and eight neurologists with expertise in MS were invited to participate in an online study in Canada. Participants answered questions regarding their clinical practice, risk preferences, management of 10 simulated case-scenarios. The design of that study was similar to that of the prior studies completed in Argentina and Chile ( = 115). TI was defined as lack of treatment initiation or escalation...

The developmental regulation and organ-specific expression of shikimate dehydrogenase was studied... more The developmental regulation and organ-specific expression of shikimate dehydrogenase was studied in seedlings of Capsicum annuum L. during their early development. The results obtained suggest that there is both a developmental regulation and an organ-specific expression of shikimate dehydrogenase in seedlings of C. annuum, seen mainly in the cotyledons. For example, shikimate dehydrogenase isoenzyme 3 was differentially expressed in cotyledons, but not at all in roots or hypocotyls. When the amounts of shikimate dehydrogenase were compared with the end-products of the shikimate pathway, chlorogenic acid and lignins, it was observed that the fall in shikimate dehydrogenase activity in cotyledons coincided with a decrease in the concentrations of phenolics during primary leaf development. However, this did not seem to be the case with the hypocotyls, where the fall in phenolics was not related to the amount of shikimate dehydrogenase but rather to an increase in lignin deposition, supporting the view that chlorogenic acid might act as a precursor of the aromatic moiety of cinnamoyl alcohols during cell wall ligniflcation.

In 1992, this region was hit by the Ms = 7.3 Suusamyr earthquake triggering several large landslides along the Suusamyr Valley and on the southern slopes of the adjacent Suusamyr Range. One of these landslides had been investigated by geophysical and geotechnical methods in order to determine local trigger factors. The present paper focuses on the influence of geological and morphological factors upon landslide occurrence on a regional scale. The analysis is based on a digital data set including landslides triggered in 1992 and several older landslides as well as various types of digital elevation models (DEMs), ASTER image data, and geological and active fault maps. These data were combined to compute landslide susceptibility (LS) maps using statistical methods, Landslide Factor and Conditional Analyses (LFA, CA), as well as a geotechnical one, the Newmark's Method (NM). The landslide data set was also analyzed with respect to the size–frequency relationship.

We assessed cognitive performance and physical disability in 111 multiple sclerosis (MS) patients... more We assessed cognitive performance and physical disability in 111 multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and 222 healthy controls in a multicenter study in Argentina to obtain the prevalence of cognitive impairment (CI) in a population of MS outpatients in Argentina. MS patients presented significantly lower scores in all Brief Repeatable Battery of Neuropsychology (BRB-N) tests than did the control group. The prevalence of CI was 43.2%. This study allowed us to obtain actual figures on the number of MS patients with CI in a Latin American sample. This validation is a very useful tool for clinical practice and for research studies to assess cognition in MS.
