A combination of adsorption and photoelectrodegradation system was performed to reduce the concen... more A combination of adsorption and photoelectrodegradation system was performed to reduce the concentration of Rhodamine B dye in water. The adsorption was conducted using silica and alumina activated by acid and base under various predetermined pH of Rhodamine B. The photoelectrodegradation process was performed using Ti/TiO2 electrode as a cathode and Ti/TiO2-NiO as an anode. TiO2 was synthesized from titanium tetra-isopropoxide precursor (TTiP) by sol-gel method. TiO2-NiO composite was synthesized with the same precursor with the addition of Ni(NO3)2.6H2O. The result shows that the activation changes the amount of OH total in the adsorbent. The acid-activated adsorbent showed an optimum adsorption activity when Rhodamine B was in base condition caused by zwitter ionic structure. It reversely occured to base-activated adsorbent where an optimum absorption activity reached at acid condition. The method of Ti/TiO 2-NiO photoelectrode prepared by using sol-gel method continued by calcinati... more The method of Ti/TiO 2-NiO photoelectrode prepared by using sol-gel method continued by calcination process was introduced. The prepared TiO 2-NiO film was observed with XRD and TEM. The anatase-rutile TiO 2 was mainly on the prepared TiO 2-NiO composite surface electrode. In addition to NiO, the composite also formed NiTiO 3 that increased with increasing calcination temperature. Photoelectrocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B (RB) using this electrode was investigated, and anodic potential and pH were optimized. RB degradation was investigated under different conditions, and it showed that photoelectrocatalytic degradation could achieve efficient and complete mineralization of organic pollutant. Through comparison of the photoelectrocatalytic oxidation using the Ti/TiO 2-NiO electrode operated by single photoanode with the Ti/TiO 2-NiO electrode operated by several photoanode, it was found that the photoelectrocatalytic efficiency of that by series photoanodes was higher. Additionally, photoelectrocatalytic system was performed at the several different photoelectrodes, which verified the higher photocatalytic activity compared with the single photoelectrode.

Photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic degradation of methyl violet dye using Graphite/PbTiO3 c... more Photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic degradation of methyl violet dye using Graphite/PbTiO3 composites has been conducted. The purposes of this research were to examine photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic degradation of methyl violet using Graphite/PbTiO3 composite. Synthesis of Graphite/PbTiO3 composite was successfully performed via sol-gel method by mixing graphite powder, titanium tetra isopropoxide precursor solution (TTIP) and Pb(NO3)2. The Graphite/PbTiO3 composites were characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform-Infra Red (FT-IR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The XRD diffractogram and IR spectrum of Graphite/PbTiO3 composite revealed all characteristic peak of graphite and PbTiO3. Photocatalytic degradation process showed that Graphite/PbTiO3 composite with ratio 1/1 decreased concentrations of methyl violet up to 92.20 %. While photoelectrocatalytic degradation processed for 30 minutes at neutral pH and 10 V voltage degraded the methyl violet until 94 %. However, the photoelectrocatalysis is still not significance to improve methyl violet degradation compared with photocatalysis.

Modification on PBI was done with addition of 15%, 20% and 25% DVB (w/w) using benzoyl peroxide. With glycerol, weight variations of glycerol:1,4-butanediol (BDO) in the synthesis were 10%, 30%, and 50% (mole/mole). PBI and PBI modified with DVB and glycerol were characterized with FTIR and TG-DTA. PBI showed a wavenumber shift from 1703 cm -1 to 1728 cm -1 of the C=O functional group from acid to esther. The DVB modification on PBI also showed that the intensity decrease of C=C stretching was due to the formation of crosslinking on the double bond. In the modification with glycerol, three dimensional networking on the polyester occurred through bonding between hydroxyl of glycerol and acid group of IA. Constant intensity of C=C stretching on polyester was seen. The thermal stability of PBI modified with DVB increased, accompanied by rigidity change of the structure. The thermal stability of PBI modified with glycerol decreased, caused by the decrease of regularity degree and the elasticity increase of the three dimensional structure of polyester. ABSTRAK Polibutilena itakonat (PBI) untuk modifikasi divinil benzena (DVB) dan gliserol telah disintesis pada 180°C selama 3 jam melalui polikondensasi asam itakonat (IA) dengan butanadiol dengan katalis Ti(OBu) 4 . Modifikasi pada PBI dilakukan dengan variasi 15%; 20% dan 25% DVB (b/b) menggunakan benzoil peroksida. Modifikasi dengan gliserol dilakukan dengan variasi mol gliserol:mol 1,4-butandiol (BDO) adalah 10:90, 30:70, dan 50:50. Analisis FTIR dan TG-DTA dilakukan terhadap PBI dan PBI termodifikasi DVB dan gliserol. PBI menunjukkan adanya pergeseran bilangan gelombang dari 1703 cm -1 ke 1728 cm -1 yang menandakan terjadinya perubahan gugus C=O asam menjadi C=O ester. Modifikasi DVB pada PBI menurunkan intensitas uluran dari gugus C=C yang dikarenakan terbentuknya ikatan silang pada ikatan rangkap dua dari PBI. Pada modifikasi dengan gliserol, percabangan yang terjadi pada poliester disebabkan adanya ikatan hidroksi dari gliserol dan gugus asam dari IA. Intensitas uluran C=C pada poliester terlihat tetap. Kestabilan termal dari PBI dengan DVB semakin meningkat, disertai perubahan rigiditas dari strukturnya. Peningkatan kestabilan disebabkan adanya ikatan intermolekular polimer tiga dimensi dan adanya jembatan aromatik dari DVB. Disisi lain, kestabilan termal dari PBI pada penambahan gliserol menurun, disebabkan turunnya derajat keteraturan dari struktur tiga dimensi poliester dan meningkatnya keelastisitasan dari struktur tiga dimensinya.
