The first ones are those in the field gathering information who then pass it on to the ones in the "ivory tower" who work on it and synthesize it (Hentea, 2000,9). Even though the military profession has nothing to do with journalism, at a closer look we can identify a number of common traits: devotion, initiative, ability to make critical decisions in a crisis (Clem, 1992,63). For a journalist to do his job, he needs free access to the battlefield, freedom of movement within that area, and access to official military information. In case one of these conditions are not met, the accuracy of the data becomes doubtful. Unfortunately, more often than not, the military curtailed access to information or war zones by claiming "military secret". (Hentea, 2000,18). A war correspondent is usually up against a few...

The influence of the press was due to the high confidence with which those magazines were credited. Children's magazines have followed the general trend of the press, representing a reflection of the national policies. If until August 1944, the magazines dedicated to children had mostly an educational and entertaining role, after this date they were used as a manipulation and propaganda tool. From this point of view, an interesting period is that of the early years of communism, when we can notice the coexistence of the two roles Ŕ educational and political. The aim of our study is to describe the evolution of Jurnalul copiilor (The Childrenřs Journal), to highlight its particularities, and to reveal the most important topics.

Children were one of the targeted age groups, and the strategies of indoctrination adopted confirmed that the Soviets had advanced knowledge concerning the stages of children’s cognitive development. Some of the most effective instruments in creating the «new man» were the periodicals dedicated to children, which were actually press organs of the Romanian Communist Party. However, this detail was ignored by most parents, and thought irrelevant to the children’s universe. A number of other factors secured the success of this means of propaganda: the trust and appreciation of these publications among children, an excellent distribution network, low acquisition cost, the limited number of books available, and reduced access to the same. In an era dominated by austerity in terms of communication and forms o...

A journey is more than just a walk from A to B, it’s a bildungsroman, and it’s an identity interplay between us and others, because, in most of the cases, travel is an initiatic journey for self-knowledge, self-worth, and recognition. Confronted with the reality of the other we cannot help ourselves from comparing what we see or fell, hear, smell, with the familiar without pointing out the differences, the strange.
Our study aims to analyze the types of travel writings by the Romanians who, for various reasons, journeyed into the East, starting from the Near East (the Ottoman Empire).
