The manifestations are, primarily, associated with the steel corrosion; however published data obtained from site surveys, on the Brazilian architectural heritage and related to the issue, are still scarce in the literature. Thus, the aim of the study is to assess the current condition of the exposed concrete façades reinforcement of the Vilanova Artigas building, a Brazilian architectural heritage, opened in 1969. Legal restrictions limited the destructive tests and sampling areas. The history of the interventions, environmental aggressiveness and preliminary inspection (in the parent concrete and patch repairs) provided qualified information for analyzing in situ testing results. In the sampling areas physical, chemical and electrochemical tests were carried out. The façades surfaces are naturall...

It was evaluated material properties that influenced the luminic ande thermal performances. The research analyzed emissivity index, surface temperature, heat flux and illuminance. The geometry was designed with the aid of Rhinoceros 3D program and RhinoVault plugin that simulates shells structures. Both surfaces were subjected to actual lighting and insolation conditions for comparative studies. The surface temperature data has been acquired by camera with thermic display, the air temperature and the illuminance were computed by
weather station and two collecting sensors. The results showed that the external surface temperature of the acrylic coverage reached 67,9ºC while the composite in the same period was 51,2ºC. Regarding to heat flow, it found evidence that the composite surface comes to emit a flow of 42.15 W / m² front of 209.57 W / m² of acrylic surface.

The digital reconstruction of the building, and its parts, was carried out based on conventional topographic survey with total station, 3D laser scan associated with photogrammetry, metric survey using manual instruments and visual analysis associated with photographic record. The modeling process, through the integration of several methods, allowed the gathering of historical data, laboratory analyses and on-site tests, enabling classification and registration of useful information for the future conservation management plan of the building. The conception of a single model proved to be infeasible; specialty requires specific data which may even use different geometric delimitations (modeling) of the constituent parts of the building. It is proposed a s...

The aim of this study is to determine the contribution of a residence for sustainable development... more The aim of this study is to determine the contribution of a residence for sustainable development in the mitigation of global warming through an energy efficient and environmentally sustainable home model by reducing emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) from country power system. In terms of methodology, a model of solar house is taken (Ekó House prototype), which uses the sun as the only energy source and is designed to operate efficiently and able to generate annually all the energy consumed through photovoltaic own-system. The study goes through the characterization of the sustainable housing unit model and estimates per unit of energy savings related to its operation over time and in the geographical space of interconnected electric system; quantitative and qualitative understanding of energy generation in the National Interconnected System (SIN) related to GHG sources and emissions, and an interrelated assessment of energy use and GHG emissions for the residential sector. The study adopts strategies and systems which ensure the efficiency and rationality in its procedure, including the photovoltaic peak-generation. The replacement of conventional single-family homes by unities modeled on the reference prototype is considered for the results. The reference prototype meets the developed countries comfort standards and is more efficient when comparing its monthly consumption (around 735 kWh per month) to average consumption of an American (958 kWh per month) or Spanish (876 kWh / month) household; In comparison to Brazilian households solutions adopted in prototype provide improved comfort conditions without increasing energy demand. The generation of solar photovoltaic energy allows a reduction of GHG emissions of about 320 g of CO 2 /kWh for emissions from electricity generation by the Network; each solar-house avoid emissions up to 7.1 ton per year of CO 2 , which means 355 ton in its lifetime and the full potential of avoiding CO 2 emissions reaches up to 3550 million of tons, considering an specific Brazilian region. From the results, it may be concluded that the model of the solar house in the Ekó House prototype patterns consolidates actions for the sustainable development, ensuring the use of energy efficiently and rationally over time, without restricting users from their activities and meeting their needs. It contributes to the mitigation of global warming by reducing greenhouse gas emissions since it uses photovoltaic generation and relies on design solutions that increase efficiency when compared to a conventional residence. Thus, it is evident that systems and sustainable housing strategies with the sun as a source key can be applied taking advantage of the facilities from CDM, enabling economically its replication on a large scale by the addition of carbon credits and allowing the development of the country in a more responsible way in from the social and environmental point of view.

The major challenges are related to the architectural programming and to the relatively short period of time (120 days) set out for completion of the construction works. It deals with the construction of a butterfly vivarium, oriented to educational purposes and accessible to public in general. Besides, the location area is inside a listed building demanding careful intervention in space. A geodesic structure was designed measuring 13.75 m in diameter, 10.60 m in height and consisting of 145 triangular shaped components, made from cold-formed sheet steel members. The surface area, surface mass and enclosed volume are, respectively, 561 m 2 , 5.93 kg/m 2 , 1,056 m 3 . Cladding was designed to enabl...

prefabricated wooden panels, based on the case study of the Ekó House prototype, a zero net energy solar home. The structure consists of bearing panels in timber frames (cumaru) braced by OSB boards and metallic connections. The Production Process is approached from development of the design for production, elaborated with digital manufacturing software, through manufacturing with conventional equipment and CNC Machines (Computer Numerical Control Machines), reaching the assembly of the
structure. Two results are highlighted: (1) the accuracy achieved in the product and; (2) replacement of on-site conventional construction methods for assembly and disassembly methods. They could be verified due to two factors: (1) inclusion of production process requirements in building design and (2) using digital process for design and manufacturing. The main challenges were the need for adaptation of regular tools and the development of specific procedures. The most significant difficulties were related to handling and assembly of the panels due the need of heavy machinery and trained personnel. The processes, procedures and tools developed, with some adjustments, are feasible for use in industrial scale

A Zero Energy Solar-House (ZESH) is defined, considering its fabrication, assembly systems, use of natural resources and strategies for energy efficiency, leading to low environmental impact. A Brazilian scenery is described regarding energy feeding conditions in isolated areas, the occupation of protection areas, which are coveted by real estate market and touristic exploitation, and the consequent environmental impact. The ZESH harnesses sun's energy throughout a photovoltaic (PV) system for energy generation, solar collectors for water heating and passive environmental conditioning. Besides, it has local wastewater treatment and solid waste management systems, reducing the environmental impact arising from the occupants activities. To verify the ZESH model, this study takes the E...

In this sense, the systematization of solar-house appears with guidelines that guide its design under the end-use of electricity, environmental conditioning, application of solar systems and other equipment to ensure energy and environmental efficiency in its operation. Quantitative evidence appears securing the residential sector of Brazil as a case study, analyzing the Brazilian energy system and use of electricity by the residential sector, with concomitant evaluation of associated emissions of greenhouse gases. Moreover, it has been as solar house prototype verification as the EkóHouse identified model. The estimated reduction of GHG emissions is related to the use of electricity, and accounting for these emissions are considered photovoltaic generation to replace the power grid, and the adoption of energy efficiency measures. As a result this study presents a model of solar-house; defining strategies for energy and environmental efficiency in dwellings, the accounting of emissions avoided and the analysis of the benefits obtained by the application of solar-house model on a large scale in Brazil. To estimate impacts of these solutions on a larger scale, it is assumed as part of the case study Southeast of Brazil, and is considered the adoption of energy efficiency measures and PV generation to 50 % of homes in this area. The accounting shows a potential to prevent up to 355 tons of CO2. We conclude that solar-house modeled to have zero annual energy consumption and to be energy efficient, contributes to a low environmental impact and to sustainable development throughout mitigation of global warming by reducing GHG emissions.
