Adolescents (N = 336, M age = 13.45 years, SD = 1.04) participating in a summer camp in southern Greece took part in the study. The participants completed the Approach Avoidance Achievement Goal Questionnaire (AAAGQ; measuring mastery, performance-approach and performance-avoidance goals, as conceptualized by , and the Learning and Performance Orientations in Physical Education Classes Questionnaire (LAPOPECQ; measuring five dimensions of task-and ego-involving motivational climate). Hierarchical regression analyses indicated that, after controlling for age and gender, the dimensions of motivational climate predicted achievement goals differently. Specifically, the students' learning orientation dimension was the strongest predictor of mastery goals, the students' competitive orientation dimension was the strongest predictor of performance-approach goals, while the worries about mistakes dimension was the largest predictor of performance-avoidance goals. The findings of the present study indicate that there might be differential relationships between the dimensions of motivational climate and achievement goals in a physical education context.

The aim of the study was to identify physical activity and mental well-being typologies in corporate employees, using both quantitative and qualitative research methods. This method of identification of at-risk groups may inform efforts to design and deliver more cost-effective wellness interventions in the workplace. In the quantitative phase, participants were 312 corporate employees (n 0/ 204 males and n 0/ 108 females), representing various job roles in a multi-national IT company. The mean age of the participants was 34.1 (SD 0/8.1). Questionnaires were administered through the internet to measure physical activity and indicators of global, work-related, and physical well-being. A hierarchical cluster analysis examined the number of physical activity and well-being clusters. Four distinct clusters were identified, and validated statistically by means of a MANOVA test on mental well-being indicators not used in the clustering. Furthermore, ten semi-structured interviews were conducted with 5 male and 5 female participants, representing cases from each of the cluster groups. This was to determine the degree of fit between the cluster description and the individual interview accounts, and to provide a richer source of information regarding the underpinnings of the clusters. The results demonstrate the value and efficacy of using a multi-method approach to identify potential target populations for further study and for targeted interventions.

Aerobic instructors (N = 149) completed questionnaires measuring general need satisfaction, exercise motivational regulations, body image concerns, social physique anxiety, and self-perceptions. Introjected regulation predicted all outcome variables in the expected direction. Intrinsic motivation positively predicted physical self-worth. Further, autonomy need satisfaction negatively predicted body image concerns. Finally, differences existed in need satisfaction, introjected regulation, self-perceptions and social physique anxiety between those at risk of developing eating disorders and those not at risk. The results underline the importance of overall and exercise-specific feelings of self-determination in dealing with body image concerns and low self-perceptions of aerobics instructors.

Further, we examined various demographic, social, and health behaviour characteristics that were used to discriminate between such groups. The participants were 1,381 community-dwelling adults aged 65 years and above (M age = 73.65; SD = 7.77) from six European Union (EU) countries who completed self-reported questionnaires. Hierarchical cluster analysis was initially conducted followed by a k means analysis to confirm cluster membership. Four clusters were identified and validated: 'good health and moderate functioning' (38.40%), 'moderate health and functioning' (30.84%), 'obese and depressed' (20.24%) and 'low health and functioning' (10.51%). The groups could be discriminated based on age, gender, nationality, years of education, social isolation and health behaviours (alcohol consumption and walking behaviour). The results of the study demonstrate heterogeneity with regard to the relationships between the variables examined. The information can be used in targeting older Europeans for health promotion interventions.
