Celeste Jorge - Academia.edu (original) (raw)
The researcher initiated her career, in 1987, working in hydrogeology, geochemistry and aquifer contamination, as young researcher.
In 1988, she changed from Faculdade de Ciências de Lisboa – Universidade de Lisboa to Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC), after public competition.
Presently, the researcher is:
• Secretary-general of the Board of the “Comissão Portuguesa de Geotecnia Ambiental” (CPGA), since its foundation, in 2012, until 2016, in the first quadrennium.
• Co-responsible for the area of soil contamination in CPGA Board.
• Portuguese representative of IAEG in the Commission 27 - Environmental aspects of construction materials (2014-2017).
• Representative member of SPG in the TC208 – Slope stability of ISSMGE (2014-2017).
• Portuguese Corresponding member in the TC304 – Risk by ISSMGE (2014-2017).
• Official representative of LNEC, as member of NICOLE (Network for industrially contaminated land in Europe - http://www.nicole.org/), first between 1997 and 1999. More recently, since 2012.
In the past, the researcher participated, among others:
• In Portuguese adaptation of European legislation (Discussion of the Directive 199/31/CE from the Council of 26th April 1999 – Landfill Wastes Disposal and Proposal of Decision from the Commission for the Waste European Catalog and Dangerous Wastes List).
• In CARACAS (Concerted Action on Risk Assessment for Contaminated Sites in the EU - as expert representative member of Portuguese Government – Environmental Ministry).
• In CLARINET (Contaminated Land Rehabilitation Network for Environmental Technologies - as expert representative member of Portuguese Government – Environmental Ministry).
Expert:
- Soil Contamination by hydrocarbons and other organic substances and respective mitigation.
- Contamination by explosives on military areas and their mitigation.
- Perception and risk analysis in soil contamination.
- Perception, management and risk analysis in urban areas with stability problems (aptitude for construction) in climate change conditions.
Scientific Societies:
◦ Sociedade Portuguesa de Geotecnia (SPG), since 1988.
◦ International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG), since 1990.
◦ International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM), since 1993.
◦ International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), since 2007.
◦ International Tunneling and Underground Space Association (ITA-AITES), since 2007.
In 1990, LNEC decided to increase the knowledge of the researcher in geotechnical area. By this way, the researcher has done a master in engineering geology, to acquire more skills related with the Geotechnics Department. She worked during several years in seismic engineering and geotechnical stability problems; passing by the assurance control of tunnels.
In 1994, she has embarked to soil contamination area, returning to the environmental theme, already in a perspective of environmental geotechnics. Since then, she have acquired competences in geoenvironmental engineering and environmental geotechnics related with sites for waste disposal, soil contamination research, environmental management, rehabilitation of degraded and contaminated sites, environmental management and rehabilitation of old mining sites, evaluation of Environmental Evaluation Impact (coordinating the subject of risks), and risk analysis (environment, slope stability and urbanism - soil occupation).
Since January 2016, the researcher is in the Hydraulics and Environment Department of LNEC.
