First, I would like to thank my husband, David, and our children, Janelle and Brian, for their unwavering faith in me and for being so accommodating. Their support has been essential to my perseverance in completing my graduate studies. I would also like to thank my parents, Tony and Bernice Ulik, for their love and encouragement. They were supportive in countless ways. I owe Edward Siegel a debt of gratitude for his encouragement to embark on my graduate studies and his support during the entire process. I would also like to thank Dr. Jean King for her encouragement, especially during the early years of my graduate studies. In addition, I would like to thank Ron Weitbrecht for his encouragement and support, particularly during the editing stages of my dissertation. I would like to thank Dr. Geoff Maruyama, his influence on my career and my studies have been immeasurable. In addition, I would like to thank all of those who listened and encouraged me to persevere. In particular, I would like to thank Sandy Desens, Joleen Anderson and Gayle Walkowiak.
