Interactive simulation allows to present information in more dynamic, compelling and interactive way with engaging environment. This paper discusses the application of interactive simulation supporting the actual laboratory session of basic Electronics lab activities. For this, interactive simulation for one of the basic electronics lab activity was designed, developed with state of art technology 'Flash MX 2004' and evaluated for its effectiveness. A particular focus of this investigation is on how the use of interactive simulation influences learners' approach to learning. Pre test and post test were administrated on the target group, using quasi-experimental research methodology. 'Total quality' of developed package was evaluated by administrating a separate questionnaire. The comments and ratings obtained in the learners' insights provided the basis for the learni...

In this paper, we propose feature level fusion by adopting the concept of canonical correlation analysis (CCA) to fuse Iris and Fingerprint feature sets of the same person. The uniqueness of this approach is that it extracts maximized correlated features from feature sets of both modalities as effective discriminant information within the features sets. CCA is, therefore, suitable to analyze the underlying relationship between two feature spaces and generates more powerful feature vectors by removing redundant information. We demonstrate that an efficient multimodal recognition can be achieved with a significant reduction in feature dimensions with less computational complexity and recognition time less than one second by exploiting CCA based joint feature fusion and o...

Iris biometric modality possesses inherent characteristics which make the iris recognition system... more Iris biometric modality possesses inherent characteristics which make the iris recognition system highly reliable and noninvasive. Nowadays, research in this area is challenging compact template size and fast verification algorithms. Special efforts have been employed to minimize the size of the extracted features without degrading the performance of the iris recognition system. In response, we propose an improved feature fusion approach based on multilinear subspace learning to analyze Iris recognition. This approach consists of four stages. In the first stage, the eye image is segmented to extract the iris region. In the second step, wavelet packet decomposition is conducted to extract features of the iris image, since good time and frequency resolutions can be provided simultaneously by the wavelet packet decomposition. In the next step, all decomposed nodes or packets are arranged as a 3rd order tensor rather than a long vector, in which feature fusion is directly implemented wi...

Use of combination of interactive simulations and hands on experience in the lab provides more promising effect as simulation provides illustrations of phenomena that are not easily visualized. Further interactive simulations allow students to do otherwise more complex and hazardous experiments, offer full control to manipulate experimental variables and observed circuit behaviors, which helps to foster a deeper understanding of the experiments. The objective of this research project was to design and to create an interactive simulation for electronics lab and evaluate its effectiveness from counselor's outlook. For this, interactive simulation was developed on 'Wien bridge oscillator' which is one of the lab activities of basic electronics course offered at 4th semester of B.Tech Electronics Engineering. This paper presents a study that investigates the effect of using computer simulation. The results from the evaluation revealed that the simulation package was rated high in the areas of quality content, quality language, user friendliness, presentation flow, motivation etc. Whereas feedback, adaptation and auditory support along with visual material representation for visually disable learner, were areas identified that required enrichment. The findings from the study demonstrate that developed simulation package is a useful educational tool to improve overall effectiveness and efficiency of teaching-learning process.
