However, research in individual organisations has shown that sophisticated IT alone is not enough to sustain competitive ...

Such failure in modern complex supply chains is an extremely disruptive force, and its likelihood is a key factor in the prequalification appraisal of contractors. The work described, using financial data from the Taiwanese construction industry, extends the classical methods by applying Shannon's information theory to improve their prediction ability and provides an alternative to newer artificial-intelligence-based approaches.

This paper results from a case study of the enterprise-wide review of Mobil Oil Australia Limited to increase profitability and change the culture of the organisation. A radical (to the Oil Industry) business unit organisation structure was designed, populated and implemented. The project was an immediate financial success and reenergized the company. Income after tax was six times higher after the reorganisation than in the previous year notwithstanding a continuing recession and the uncertainty caused by the restructuring. Return on capital employed increased from 2% to 7%. Lessons can be learnt from the way the project was initiated and developed, the deployment of the project management structure and improvement methodology, the approach to the implementation of the new structure and the findings of the post implementation review.

Recent research, however, indicates that there is a need to handle such distributed knowledge in an integrated manner, especially under uncertain and fast changing environments. Many companies have adopted a process-oriented view of their operations , replacing the traditional functional viewpoint, with a view towards gaining benefit by better integration of operations. Many factors can affect the success of this approach, but a key one is the ability to represent and model the process. A range of techniques and tools are available to aid this activity.

It is widely accepted that all SC problems are characterized by decisions that can be conflicting by nature, distributed, and constrained. Modeling these complex problems using multiples objectives, constrained satisfaction,

Through the formation of relationships, participants of clusters share knowledge and expertise to collectively seek new markets and opportunities that would be otherwise unattainable on their own. This paper presents a research in the field of innovation clusters applied to the Chilean wine industry. The Innovation Value Chain is used as the basis for analysing processes of a wine cluster in Chile. Preliminary results from published data show that relationships formed by the structure of the cluster have enhanced the overall performance of the cluster. The Innovation Value Chain can be a useful strategic tool for management decision-making as organisations can identify areas for improvement through the three-phase process of innovation. The paper also concludes that a geographic based wine cluster fosters the surge, development and implementation of innovation activities to some degree. Future work i...
