After three decades as one of America's newest and poorest immigrant groups, Vietnamese in the United States have begun to grapple with this idea, in recent years attempting coalitions with whites, other Asian ethnic groups, and Latinos as their population has grown. For over a century, researchers addressed the question of how individual differences in motor ima... more For over a century, researchers addressed the question of how individual differences in motor imagery (MI) dimensions such as vividness and controllability, as well as the ability to imagine in real-time, can be assessed. Considering that MI is a multi-dimensional construct, we, and other researchers, have measured its underlying processes using a combination of psychometric tests, qualitative procedures, chronometric methods in which MI processes are investigated by comparing the duration required to execute real and imagined actions, and psycho-physiological techniques. Although these approaches have each yielded some interesting results, they have not yet been combined adequately to provide an aggregate index of MI quality. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to propose a rationale for our novel hypothesis that it is possible to calculate an index of MI quality by quantitatively combining these measures. Recently, time allocated to athletes concentration has been reduced to 1 minute. Increased activa... more Recently, time allocated to athletes concentration has been reduced to 1 minute. Increased activation and focused attention are thought to be important operations which influence performance during preparation. The aim of the study was to test whether reducing preparation time has an effect on subjects’ mental activity and consequently on performance. Ten subjects took part in the experiment. Each subject had to perform 14 throws: a) 7 with preparation b) 7 with no preparation. Autonomic nervous system activity was continuously recorded through six variables (2 electrodermal, 2 thermovascular and 2 cardiorespiratory variables). Performance was comparable in preparation and non-preparation modalities. Subjects increase their activation before throwing, however more rapidly without preparation time. Thus, performance was obtained through the same activation level whatever the time allocated to prepare. Shot-put performance seems to be dependent upon execution quality but also on reach...
