This leads her to comment on how Atwood offers a new brand of narrative described as a “metafictional and mythical cabaret-style confession” which works within an ethical framework serving the purpose of denouncing social privileges. She also points to ur-material in Atwood’s work, including her poetic work she considers as the seeds planted for The Penelopiad—in terms of exploring both recurrent themes and forms. Finally, having scrutinized Penelope’s voice more closely, she explores another possible interpretation of the ending of The Penelopiad that differs from the one suggested by Susanne Jung but does not exclude alternative interpretations.

Examples of regional brands include post-colonial brands of literature such as “Canadian literature” branded as “CanLit”or “Indian literature in English”, branded as “IEL” (Indian English literature) or “IWE” (Indian Writing in English). In comparing these post-colonial brands, this article aims at highlighting their economic and symbolic value, as well as the drawbacks of highly commercial branding practices in the book industry.

For the last fifteen years, technoculture theorists have been exploring the consequences of the wide availability of internet connectivity to the first generation of people born to it, who are referred to as "Digital Natives". Their purpose is to address issues such as shifts in the concept of identity, privacy, content creation, activism, and piracy. Our objective will be to apply the findings of generational experts to highlight possible avenues for pedagogical innovation in our University of science and engineering. We

Sometimes, common themes that appear in the literature have come to crystalize national identity in spite of the complex issues generated by years of colonialism and neo-colonialism. Today more than before more Ugandans are able to read. The challenge, however, is that this readership seems to have conspired with the book publishing industry who thrive as business enterprises at the expense of building a national identity and voice, literary health, or cultural heritage. Where then and how can the critical voices grow or multiply? What contexts will grow the Ugandan book? How insoluble are the indigenous publishers? On the other hand, the book chain has been boosted by efforts some of them international like the literary awards and prizes, residences and book fairs. Hitherto ignored con...

This article is an attempt to define “serious reading”, drawing from the works of critics, psychologists, philosophers and fiction writers. It is also an attempt to show how “serious” and “reading” can become inter-related through a methodology and platform called eZoomBook that can guide users towards this goal. Our previous publications on eZoomBook look at reading from the perspective of the new technologies and the Generation Z reader to establish whether the eZoomBook teaching practice and tool encourages students to read above their level. This article takes our investigation one step further in highlighting what kind of reading our platform promotes and how it aims at helping us rediscover the concept of seriousness. Our objective is to motivate the Generation Z reader through technology to delve more deeply into texts, to invest time a...

An “eZoomBook” is a customized multi-level document incorporating links among the different layers that are accessible by tabs in a menu. eZoomBooks include a zooming in and out function allowing readers to navigate easily among the different layers. Each of the five experiments is examined in light of six classroom variables. We aim to demonstrate that the eZoomBook editor facilitates a blended, eclectic approach adaptable to a variety of pedagogical contexts and highly motivating for its users.
