The project team faced a number of challenges, of which the most essential were the need to find or create a large number of Swedish terms in a short time and to adjust the routines and practices developed for more traditional terminological projects to the requirements of translation-oriented terminology work. Various kinds of terminol ogical problems encountered are discussed ranging from discrepancies between the definitions of the same concept in different languages to finding an equivalent for a culture-dependent concept. The principles and methods used for dealing with some of the challenging cases are also considered.

As the largest group of prospective users are translators, the vocabulary combines the features of a terminological dictionary and a reference guide to the current usage of the EU language. The general features of the Vocabulary are outlined and two important problems involved in the compilation of special language vocabularies are discussed identification of headwords and providing access to multiword lexical units.

In this chapter a tentative classification of terminological projects is suggested based on the following key features: terminological needs which a terminological project is intended to meet, its objective, target user group, and properties of a terminology resource to be created. Seven project types have been established; two of them are examined in more detail: creation of a monolingual domain resource and maintenance of a terminological query service. Two authentic terminological projects carried out by the Swedish Centre for Terminology (TNC) are discussed as examples of the two types with special focus on the phases and steps involved in the implementation of terminological projects.

In these Google times when you can wash out a plenitude of information with just a few clicks there are many who still prefer asking a professional terminologist for help with their terminological problems. At least in Sweden where a terminological query service operated by TNC, the Swedish national centre for terminology has been providing users with terminological information on demand since the 1940's.

The analysis of the color word meanings allows some interesting insights into "reality links" of these expressions.

This thesis intends to survey the concept of equivalence in three subject fields all of which focus on
languages and communication, namely: translation theory, lexicography and terminology. The purpose of the paper is twofold: to investigate the theoretical grounds of equivalence in these three disciplines and to survey the methods and practices of establishing equivalence in multilingual terminology work. The results of the theoretical investigation are summed up on
the basis of the terminological concept analysis. Four concepts systems are structured and presented in the form of concept diagrams (two for translation theory, one for lexicography and
one for terminology). The concept systems give an overview of the current understanding of equivalence in the three subject fields and expose the relations between equivalence and a
number of related concepts. The central theoretical question of the thesis whether equivalence could be considered the same concept in all three disciplines is answered on the basis of the
results of the terminological concept analysis. The empirical investigation is carried out in the form of case studies in the frame of multilingual terminology work. It focuses on the problems of establishing equivalence, of determining the degree of equivalence as well as on the methods and practices of presenting equivalents in various terminological resources
