The high portability of photophoretic traps compared to conventional optical traps involving micr... more The high portability of photophoretic traps compared to conventional optical traps involving microscopes holds great promise in trapping and manipulation of particles. Trapping particle using photophoresis holds capacity to be widely used in segregating organic and inorganic particles, in the study of aerosols, in various branches of chemistry, biology and physics. Using optical tweezers for trapping of particle requires a viscous medium as particle undergo Brownian motion, thus making trapping in air even more difficult using conventional methods. In this case, photophoretic force comes to the rescue since its magnitude is many orders higher. It works on the simple phenomenon of momentum exchange between the absorbing particles being trapped and the surrounding gas molecules. In the current set-up we use light coupled through an optical fibre to trap printer toner particles and a focused using a simple convex lens. BACKGROUND The short stability window of several hours from blood collection to measuring basophi... more BACKGROUND The short stability window of several hours from blood collection to measuring basophil activation has limited the use of flow cytometry-based basophil activation assays in clinical settings. We examine if it is possible to extend this window to 1 day allowing for shipment of samples between laboratories. Several options exist for reporting the results including reporting all the measured values directly, calculating ratios and reporting a single value covering all measured results. Each of these options have different stability and value to the physician. METHODS Whole blood samples from peanut allergic patients were stimulated with four different peanut concentrations at Day 0, Day 1, and Day 2. Samples were stored under temperature-controlled conditions. Flow cytometry was used to analyze the samples. In this work, a novel system (method) for sleep quality analysis is proposed. Its purpose is to a... more In this work, a novel system (method) for sleep quality analysis is proposed. Its purpose is to assist an alternative non-contact method for detecting and diagnosing sleep related disorders based on acoustic signal processing. In this work, audio signals of 145 patients with obstructive sleep apnea were recorded (more than 1000 hours) in a sleep laboratory and analyzed. The method is based on the assumption that during sleep the respiratory efforts are more periodically patterned and consistent relative to a waking state; furthermore, the sound intensity of those efforts is higher, making the pattern more noticeable relative to the background noise level. The system was trained on 50 subjects and validated on 95 subjects. The system accuracy for detecting sleep/wake state is 82.1% (epoch by epoch), resulting in 3.9% error (difference) in detecting sleep latency, 11.4% error in estimating total sleep time, and 11.4% error in estimating sleep efficiency.

Sao diversas as causas que geram esse problema. Analisa-las, constitui objetivo deste trabalho, bem como apresentar solucoes para a melhoria da eficiencia da Justica. Consiste em um dos principais fatores que contribuem para com a melhoria da eficiencia da Justica, a utilizacao dos metodos nao convencionais de resolucao de conflitos. Identifica-los e verificar quais sao os aplicaveis ao sistema judicial brasileiro, bem como suas possiveis consequencias, significa possuir parâmetros para se averiguar quais as perspectivas desse legado para a Justica ser mais eficiente. Para este fim estudam-se temas inerentes a crise do Poder Judiciario, como o acesso a Justica e o pluralismo juridico. A abordagem e feita, principalmente, pelo metodo dedutivo.
