Both species were the only known typical representatives of cave leeches in Georgia. Recently, two more species of the genus Dina R. Blanchard, 1894 have been found in karst caves in this country. These leeches are morphologically similar to D. ratschaensis, from which they differ in the shape of the reproductive system, primarily the shape of the cornua of the genital atrium and the shape and extension of the vasa deferentia and ovisacs, justifying the description of two new species, Dina imeretiensis Grosser, Barjadze & Maghradze sp. nov. from the Imereti region and Dina samegreloensis Grosser, Barjadze & Shavadze sp. nov. from the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region.

The species was previously recorded in Spain by Cordero del Campillo (1980) and García Más and Jiménez (1981). However, the latter authors admitted (Garcia Más & Jiménez, 1984) that both citations could be considered erroneous due to a misinterpretation by Cordero del Campillo of Blanchard (1893) (Jueg, 2008). Thus, considering the limited and uncertain information about T. subviridis in Spain, we can argue that our specimen is the first valid record reported for the species in the Iberian Peninsula.

In the present study, we used an integrative taxonomic approach that combines morphological and DNA barcoding data to describe a new species, Dina crnogorensis sp. nov. Morphologically, the new species is most similar to Dina minuoculata Grosser, Moritz & Pešić, 2007 and Dina serbica Pešić & Grosser, 2022 from the same geographical region, but also to D. orientalis Grosser, Nesemann & Pešić, 2011 from the Near and Middle East. Differences in anatomy and the results of species-delimitation analyses based on COI sequences supported species status of the new species.

The average K2P-distance between DNA-barcode sequences of D. serbica sp. nov. and its closest relative D. minuoculata was estimated at 11.96±1.39%. Moreover, the ASAP (assemble species by automatic partitioning) species-delimitation method based on COI sequences from our study and sequences of Dina species from GenBank supported the species-status of D. serbica sp. nov. The first DNA barcoding data for D. dinarica (Sket, 1968), D. montana (Sket, 1968), D. minuoculata Grosser, Moritz & Pešić, 2007 and D. prokletijaca Grossser & Pešić, 2016 were uploaded into the Barcode of Life DataSystems database. The study confirmed the efficiency of a standard molecular COI marker in identification of Dina leeches, emphasising the need for additional morphological and molecular analysis of species of thi...

Results of morphological, anatomical and molecular phylogenetic analyses clearly place it in the genus Barbronia (fam. Salifidae). Since available morphological, anatomical and molecular data do not permit a clear and unambiguous synonimization with any of the hitherto described Barbronia species, we propose to retain it as a nominal species of this genus.
