These advices are given to the pregnant woman in order to prevent all forms of food imbalances that could harm her as well as the fetus. This is why it is essential for pregnant women to take this into account. But at the Ébrié akouai in Bingerville, pregnant women must also respect traditional food norms. The existence of this traditional diet is not without effects on nutritional counseling. These effects are manifold and result in noncompliance with nutritional recommendations. At the same time, they show the limits of the nutrition education of pregnant. We have tried to discover them through individual conversations, focus group and direct observations.

It is based on a qualitative survey conducted in three of the main urban centers of Ivory Coast namely Abidjan, Bouaké and Korhogo. The analysis shows that the contexts of HIV discovery are divided between situations of fluctuating health and the curiosity to know the serological status. When these fluctuations reach a stage considered worrying, they force the PLWA to submit to medical examinations which have for corollary the rupture of the silence on the seropositivity. The choice to break the silence, when it is unavoidable, also appears subject to a rational calculation as to the social selection of the person to be informed.

The interacting actors are Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) and therapies of traditional therapists. This paper examines the perception of therapists in their relation to this infection. In a qualitative approach, it focused on a sample of 15 individuals claiming to be able to cure the disease. The results show that despite the over-media coverage of AIDS, some therapists place this infection and ART as issues of power. Social imaginaries related to the causality of HIVAIDS and ART reveal an approximate knowledge that borrows from popular discourse. Respondents think that the different categories of care in use (traditional treatment and ART) when taken individually manifest inadequacies in the face of the disease. This is why the joint use of ARVs and medication based on traditional resources seems like a wise alternative according to them. Keywords : HIV, Côte d’Ivoire, Therapists, ART, Modern Medecin, PlHIV

By promoting the sharing of information on HIV status involving special medical follow-up with life-long antiretroviral treatment, the Ivorian AIDS authorities aim at slowing the transmission chain. In addition to allowing the protection of the entourage of HIV-positive people, it would imply a support of the whole social body. The analysis of the data from this study indicates that the household is perceived from the ambivalent angle of the curative social space (community support, rejection and/or re-appropriation of popular discourse on the disease, construction of therapeutic knowledge, etc.) and pathogenic social space. Therefore, the recommendation to apply hygiene rules in relations with other members of the household in order to avoid any transmission of the disease comes up against the fear of discovering information about HIV status and ART. As a result, traditional forms of solidarity in the face of illness are being called into question and social relations are being broken down.

Evoking food taboos related to pregnancy sometimes seems obsolete. But this is not because women in Africa continue to respect them. This practice is causing nutritional deficiencies themselves causes of maternal mortality. The extent of that on this continent, led to wonder how this practice is still needed today. This study focuses on a sample of 100 nurses and pregnant Ebrié surveyed using qualitative methods including open interviews, focus groups and direct observation of the security practices of the gestational period. Enrichments were provided by resource persons with the surveyed mothers, midwives, doctors, village authorities and traditional healers. The results indicate that among the Ébrié of Ivory Coast, the prohibitions continue to exist because they are still essential. They adapt to the changing society and respond to requests not yet satisfied by biomedicine. It then becomes important to better understand them.

Abstract

The gestante "ebrié" is subjected at the same time to the food standards conveyed by the sanitary institutions and those of its culture. Pulled about between both, it is not safe from health issues. The objective of this research is to identify the food behaviour of the gestante "Ébrié" between these standards and their consequences on the pregnancy. With this intention a point is made on these food standards (traditional and nutritional). It is made it possible to identify the food process of ébrié choice of the gestantes just as the representations and logics which underlie these choices. From this one, it was possible to show the impact of these choices on the mothers’ and their children’ health. It arises from the results obtained that women are influenced in their choice by their socio-demographic characteristics, their perception of food and the typical location of consumption in which they are. Of this process of choice, it appears that women do not conform systematically to the food standards. Thus, the majority of the gestantes do not respect the nutritional councils. They are exposed to food deficiencies which have important repercussions on their children and themselves.
