The skilful weaver Arachne proclaims the value of her work, challenges the goddess Athena and, fo... more The skilful weaver Arachne proclaims the value of her work, challenges the goddess Athena and, for this reason, is punished by being transformed into a spider. Starting from the Ovidian archetype, this character has inspired several literary works in which her various peculiarities emerge. She is simultaneously a negative emblem of pride and a philanthropic heroine, an extraordinary artist and a patient artisan, a woman and an animal. This article aims to examine some of the authors who have adapted the Arachne myth, from Dante until the beginning of the twentieth century.
