Aim of study was to evaluate tympanometric findings in patient of cleft palate and effect of palatoplasty on both short term and long term postoperatively. Methods: The subjects consisted of patients attending the cleft lip and palate clinic. This was a combined clinic consisting of department of plastic surgery, department of ENT and department of dental surgery held every month at a tertiary care hospital in Delhi. Study consisted of three groups of patients namely preoperative group, postoperative group and pre-postoperative group. Results: No significant difference was observed in tympanometric abnormalities in cases of combined cleft lip and palate as compared to isolated cleft palate. After age of 5 months once changes of OME has set in there was no significant change in middle ear findings irresp...

Thus psychrophiles are true extremophiles that has the ability to live in extremely low temperature conditions. Psychrophilic yeasts are important due to their physiological adaptation at low temperature and they have potential application in biotechnology. Psychrophilic yeast produces cold-active enzymes having numerous applications in textile, medical and pharmaceuticals, fine chemical synthesis, food industry, domestic and environmental applications. Psychrophilic enzymes from yeast have attracted attention of researchers to explore the new application of these enzymes because of their high activity at low and moderate temperatures. The present review describes various immune biotechnological applications of different cold-active enzymes produced by psychrophilic yeast in different industries.

Often the scarcity of time and anxious environment created due to injuries confound its management and prognosis. Hence, a planned and organized approach to perform care, inevitably expedite procedures in a timely fashion. However, in different situations generally predispose nonestablishment of contemporary methods for management. Here, we present a case report, in which the management of extrusive injuries was affected by other surrounding factors that presumably decreased the prognosis of the tooth. A less novel method was instituted to manage the case of extrusive luxation affecting an upper anterior tooth in a young adolescent child. Since the extrusion of tooth was confounded by parafunctional habit and a palatal impacted supernumerary tooth, it remains a mystery that the secondary extrusion following traumatic extrusive luxation of the tooth could have been due to erupting forces generated by supernumerary tooth. Hence, preoperative evaluation and its management play a pivotal role in establishing the prognosis of traumatized tooth.

Fear of alien environment, separation anxiety, and fear for injections and needles can result in an agitated and crying patient which can add to the difficulty in inducing anesthesia. It becomes a skill full specialty as fear of operation theatre and injection can produce traumatic experiences in the tender minds of young children. 1 Seventy percent of children before anesthesia showed a lot of stress and anxiety. 2 Preoperative anxiety can have negative physiological and psychological effects on a child. 3 It is considered that in most cases the forbidding and defiant children should be managed with non-pharmacological techniques such as tell-show-do, positive reinforcement, and modeling. Most of the time treating an apprehensive child is onerous and in some cases even unachievable by these practices. Therefore, in order to reinforce children's cooperative behaviors and quality dental treatment, pharmacological methods have been used. 4 The primary aim of drug-induced sedation in pediatric dentistry is to alter the patient's behavior to an extent that permits to

Mucocele results in alteration of the minor salivary glands due to a mucous accumulation causing limited swelling. Two histological types of mucoceles exist, namely extravasation and retention. Lower lip is the most common site of occurrence of these lesions in the oral cavity and the most probable cause is trauma or habits of lip biting. This report presented a 6½-year-old female child patient having mucocele on the inner side of her lower lip due to fall while playing, which resulted difficulty in mastication and speech. Treatment performed was conventional surgical excision followed by removal of the minor salivary glands.

Depending on the graveness of the lesion, esthetics of MIH can be improved by treatments such as enamel microabrasion, bleaching, composite resin bonding, and the combination of some or all of these techniques. The aim of this study is to evaluate the esthetic results of resin infiltration treatment on incisors with Grade I molar incisor MIH. A total of 22incisor lesions with MIH were infiltrated with resin. Photographs were captured before infiltration, just after infiltration, and 6 months after infiltration. The photographic evaluation was done by the CIE *a*b* scoring method. The means of each parameter such as Δ and Δ were calculated. ANOVA in conjunction with Turkey's test was used to evaluate the means. The total color change observed was equal just after treatment and 6 months after treatment, with no statistically significant difference ( = 0.87) between these two time points...

Amongst these, Class II is the most prevalent and commonly treated at orthodontic clinics. Treatment of Class II malocclusion with mandibular deficiency in adult patients is usually managed with ortho-surgical treatment modality. In this article a case of Skeletal Class II malocclusion with vertical growth pattern is represented which was treated with BSSRO and mandibular advancement was carried out.

Research paper thumbnail of Extraoral cutaneous sinus tracts of dental origin: A report of two pedodontic cases

International Dental & Medical Journal of Advanced Research - VOLUME 2015

The patients visit a physician first for evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment and both do not give consideration most of the times to the dental etiology. The misdiagnosis and mismanagement leading to persistence of infection can cause frustration to the patient. Successful management of the odontogenic cutaneous sinus tracts of pulpal pathology depends on proper diagnosis. However, these lesions continue to be a diagnostic quandary. Two cases of 11-year-old and 13-year-old female patients with cutaneous extraoral sinus tract have been discussed in this article. These patients were not taken seriously by the physicians, and due to their negligence, these pediatric patients had to undergo a lot of trauma. The case report describes how after proper history, diagnosis, and correct treatment by a pedodontist, the infection healed in these two different patients. Proper diagnosis is the basic requirement for the successful management of the odontogenic cutaneous sinus tracts of pulpal origin. Several case reports reveal that the appropriate diagnosis could not be made leading the incorrect treatment offered to the patients. It causes the cutaneous sinus tract to reoccur as the dental etiology is not addressed. The cutaneous sinus tracts are a rare entity in the pedodontic patients. Proper management can lead to treatment at a much earlier stage thus curbing the progression of the disease and also saving of time and expenses of the patient.
