A particularly energy-saving data transmission is made possible by first sending the Erkennungsbitfolge 48 in a first time slot A, B, C and at least second sending the Erkennungsbitfolge 48 in a second time from the first time slot A, B, C remote time slot A, B, C, wherein the duration of transmission of the Erkennungsbitfolge 48 is shorter than a wake-up of a receiver and the length 48 corresponds at least to the duration of the Aufwachintervalls of the receiver 46 of the transmission of the sum of the first and at least second Erkennungsbitfolge.

For saving energy in the transmitter 2, it is proposed that the receiver is synchronized to a time base with the transmitter 2, 12, that is, starting from the time base at least one time offset in the receiver 12 is parameterized, and that the receiver 12 listens for the energy saving mode only at times on the radio channel which are defined at least by the time base and the time offset.

Buildings account for more than 35% of the energy consumption in Europe and there is a political ... more Buildings account for more than 35% of the energy consumption in Europe and there is a political desire to lower the general energy consumption. Therefore a step towards more sustainable lifestyle could be to use home automation to optimize the energy consumption “automatically”. One of the challenges to make this a reality is to make this kind of technology available at an affordable price and easy to get installed. In order for non-technical users to invest in this kind of technology it is important to guard against vendor lock-in. Thus, interoperability between devices from different companies will be essential. In this paper we report about some of the remaining challenges before this can become a reality. In addition we reflect upon the future trends that we foresee in this market.

This paper presents the reference architecture proposed in the context of the ENCOURAGE project, and relates it with the goals of its research efforts.
