It is essential to understand how social media can shape certain behavior and self-esteem by lead... more It is essential to understand how social media can shape certain behavior and self-esteem by leading young people like students to become aggressive and demotivated, specifically, Instagram. This research focused on students' personal motivation and the effect of their selfesteem when Instagram is in use. Ultimately, Instagram is a popular social media and a total of 11.68 million active users. Data have been collected from fifteen students, between 18-29 years old who have an Instagram account and also are active users. Three research instruments were used in this study: in-depth interview, open-ended survey, and image observation. Thematic analysis was employed in search of the themes. This qualitative research approach was used because it provides a very personal level of experience despite the smallest amount of sample of open-ended interviews that add depth, detail, and meaning. The findings have demonstrated research questions each with four themes. Four themes represented the personal motivations and the other represented self-esteem. Additionally, individuals felt motivated due to goal-oriented in order to achieve something. Further, individuals may feel high or low selfesteem for using Instagram. By viewing what other posts, can effect individual's well-being. This study has found answers to several patterns for using Instagram in today's environment is much more aggressive in their usage. This study found abnormal patterns which are obsessive and are not taken lightly. Nevertheless, individuals who spent more time with Instagram may slowly develop more new patterns. Hence, this may contribute to a new dimension of motivation and self-esteem followed by the use of Instagram.

The contributory factors to male homosexuals' (MH) involvement with mainstream newspapers rep... more The contributory factors to male homosexuals' (MH) involvement with mainstream newspapers reporting of homosexuality was observed on news content representation including the reporting criterion and its consistency to be reported to the audiences, triggering the public interest in receiving information and advocating themselves towards a guided living culture. This study was guided with two theories; (i) Uses and Gratifications Theory, and (ii) Social Judgment Theory following a series of content analysis on newspapers reporting of homosexuality that was conducted to understand how it was presented. Ahli politik merupakan sumber yang paling kerap dirujuk oleh wartawan dalam pelaporan berita mereka. Oleh itu, wartawan harus mencari sumber dari mana dakwaan itu boleh diambil sebagai fakta tanpa melihat kepada jantina sumber berita tersebut. Justeru, kajian ini bertujuan untuk menyiasat persepsi wartawan Malaysia terhadap ahli politik wanita. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kualitatif melalui temu bual separa berstruktur untuk mendapatkan maklumat dengan menemu bual 11 Wartawan Malaysia. Analisis Tematik digunakan untuk menganalisis dapatan kajian. Dalam konteks kajian ini, pengkaji mendapati wartawan Malaysia tidak mempunyai persepsi negatif terhadap ahli politik wanita. Ini selaras dengan matlamat mereka sebagai wartawan yang ingin berkhidmat kepada masyarakat dan menjalankan tugas dengan penuh integriti. Secara keseluruhannya, kebanyakan wartawan Malaysia tidak secara terbuka menyatakan ketidakpercayaan mereka terhadap ahli politik wanita. Malahan, ahli politik wanita dipercayai mempunyai kualiti yang lebih tinggi berbanding ahli politik lelaki.

Based on de Jong’s view, the researchers assume mass media practices come with several ways in exercising media analysis focusing on a particular time period to generate more in-depth insights. As a wife, Javanese women identity revolves around her territory of 3M: Macak-Manak-Masak (Dress-up, giving offspring, cooking). This certainly limits the Javanese women’s movement and places her under man. This paper is based on the finding in previous research about Javanese women’s identity in society. Emancipation and globalization have gradually driven the changes of Javanese married women’s position to become a garwo – sigaraning nyowo (half of the husband’s life), which has an equal and important role in achieving the concept of dadi wong in the society.

The rise in emotional advertising comes at a time when brands are making every effort in creating... more The rise in emotional advertising comes at a time when brands are making every effort in creating contents rather than just making advertisements. The aim of this study is related to advertisements that contain sad emotional appeals, and its impact on the viewers and their purchasing decisions. The research methodology of qualitative method and phenomenological approach were applied. The data of this study was then collected by conducting in-depth interview. The data from the interview session was transcribed verbatim to ensure the words and sentences are transcribed accordingly. The findings discuss the attitude shown by the audiences towards the emotional contents in advertisements. The attitude shown by the audiences was observed closely on their reactions after watching advertisements that contains emotional appeals; particularly sad appeals. In point of fact, this research has managed to reveal on the pattern involved among advertisement audiences in navigating the content from advertisements with emotional appeals. This study is predominantly a study of emotional advertisements; Sadvertisement, as catchy as it sounds, as a popular culture terminology that describes an advertising trend for consumers in which advertisers are using a certain set of game plan to jockey on people's emotions and galvanise feelings of sadness, melancholy or wistfulness. The study adheres to the idea of a growing number of emotional advertisements and its effect on the advertisement audiences.
