Women with an unmet need for FP are at risk of unintended pregnancies which can lead to maternal morbidities and even death. Studies revealed that every 1investedinmeetingtheunmetneedforcontraceptivesyields,inthelongterm,anaverageof1 invested in meeting the unmet need for contraceptives yields, in the long term, an average of 1investedinmeetingtheunmetneedforcontraceptivesyields,inthelongterm,anaverageof120 in accrued annual benefits. The focus of FP programs has been on enhancing the counseling skills of service providers. Yet, progress in addressing the unmet need is not as aspired to reach replacement level fertility. The current correspondence focuses on the significant drop in exposure to and hearing about FP information underscoring that mass media programming for FP is not receiving the attention and support, it once did. It also highlights that the misconceptions related to the lactational amenorrhea method stand out as a serious, but under-recognized cause of unintended pregnancies and unmet need for FP. If Egypt is to attain the aspired level of unmet need for FP (8.6%) by 2030, additional efforts should be directed towards awareness-raising interventions.

Adolescents and youth require sexual and reproductive health information, education, and services... more Adolescents and youth require sexual and reproductive health information, education, and services globally to see positive health outcomes. This is also true of Muslim youth in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. n The controversial nature of sexuality education in the MENA region is not a result of Islamic doctrine but rather the result of cultural sexual taboos being misinterpreted as grounded in Islam. n The Western approach to sexuality education should be tailored and culturally adapted to the MENA region because of the differences in history, religion, and culture. n Incorporating sexuality education within religious and cultural frameworks is not an easy task and is best achieved through an ongoing process that is open to change and flexible to adaptation based on evidence-based findings.

Islam has considered the question of contraception with objectivity being a religion that underscores the importance of planning in all individual and societal affairs. There is no verse in the Quran which forbids the husband or wife to space pregnancies or reduce their number and the companions of the Prophet were allowed to practice coitus interruptus. Contraception opponents, on the other hand, claimed that any form of contraception violates God's intentions and that Islam called for a Muslim population that does not stop growing. Lack of knowledge of the position of Islam towards contraception and the religious misinterpretations that were propagated among grassroots resulted in the gap between Muslims and their doctrine regarding contraception. Raising awareness of how Islam perceived contraception and addressing questions of religious acceptability at the grassroots is one of the key factors in promoting the uptake of contraception programs in Muslim countries which will eventually scale up development efforts.

Recent survey findings provide evidence to advocate for the improvement of the number and quality of services targeting young people's needs. This study focused on the role of youth-friendly clinics in addressing young people's sexual and reproductive health. The study methodology included desk review, in-depth interviews with physicians and peer educators, and focus group discussions with young people of both sexes, including clinic beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries. The overall environment for sex education and service provision has improved in recent years. Pilot government and non-government youth-friendly clinics have been established but their coverage and use remain limited, with the majority of service users being married women rather than single men and women. The role of youth-friendly clinics in addressing youth sexual and reproductive health needs remains restricted due to societal reluctance to address these issues and cultural and religious sensitivities. Government commitment is required to scale up pilot clinics into a national programme to improve the welfare of all young people.

The 2010 second round biological/behavioral surveillance survey (Bio-BSS) conducted in some governorates revealed concentrated epidemic among male injecting drug users (IDUs). Methods: The current study aimed at exploring the perspective of IDUs regarding the HIV preventive efforts targeting them to provide relevant evidence based policy recommendations. The study included desk review, in-depth interviews with service providers and focus group discussions with IDUs of both sexes. Results: The study described the current harm reduction interventions in Egypt and highlighted the insights of active IDUs and service providers interacting with them as regards their ability to address their needs and what they miss in these interventions and how IDUs perceive these interventions. Conclusion: The epidemiological reality of HIV infection in Egypt favors prioritizing efforts to the high risk groups rather than the general population. Hence, harm reduction should be at the core of interventions targeting HIV. The current study revealed that there is still a long way to go to enhance the role of these interventions in influencing a significant behavior change among target group.
