This paper uses a quantitative method approach to investigate local Malaysian visitor preferences to heritage trails in the Old Town of central Kuala Lumpur, in Malaysia, to understand what values and qualities visitors are experiencing that informs their preferences. The findings of this research offers a ranking system of heritage trails and buildings based upon visitors’ preferences, that can aid in understanding of visitor preferences of heritage trails and the places and values along such trails.

However, there are still countless parks and open spaces that have been built with excellent facilities for the public but are being unkempt, deteriorating into disrepair and poorly maintained. Considering the importance of the public park to the community and how this is a critical link to landscape planning and maintenance, there is a need for a cost-efficiency study to set forth a strategy that best works to mitigate this issue. Adopting a quantitative research approach, the focus of this survey is to validate the expert's selection regarding attributes and parameters for the urban park maintenance checklist. The Percentage of Consensus of Agreement (PoCoA) analysis applied for this study has further demonstrated the significant sustainable landscape maintenance checklist criteria. The summary of these findings reveals the expert's preferences and validation process that further paved the conclusion on the need for sustainable landscape maintenance criteria that synergise to cost efficiency, linking to best practices for sustainable landscape planning and management.

It is claimed that the Kampung Kuchai settlement was the starting point of the City of Ipoh. During its glorious time, Kampung Kuchai comprises a house of worship (mosque), Malay mansions, rows of shophouses, schools, and a government clinic. Hence, to restore the identity of Kampung Kuchai, this project applied a cultural heritagebased trails approach to identifying elements left in this kampong by using site observation and questionnaire survey. The site observation shows that some buildings and spaces are still worth conserving. Public and private universities in Malaysia are no exception to facing various problems in online teaching and learning using the Open Distance learning (ODL) method. After nearly one and half years of performing an ODL teaching and learning method, students in public and private institutions of higher learning are beginning to show a trend of emotional decline. According to a scientific brief released by the WHO, the global prevalence of anxiety and depression increased by a massive 25% in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, this study is significant to identify the students' emotions along the ODL to surpass the issues. In addition, the measurement of emotional stability on the quality of online student learning ability is still growing. Therefore, the instrument to evaluate the research variables is crucial to ensure the quality of the output. Thus, this paper aims to assess the validity and reliability of the instrument for emotional stability on the quality of online student learning ability. This study applied a quantitative approach by using a random distribution of Google Forms questionnaires. The questionnaire was distributed among academicians in universities to re-redistribute among their students to participate in this research. The survey involved 41 Students as respondents with various backgrounds in public universities. The data was analyzed by using SmartPLS 3 for the measurement model to achieve the aim of the research. The findings show the three variables to measure the emotional condition of online student learning ability, namely learning aids, learning environment, and lecturer, are valid and confirmed to measure student emotional stability. This study found that a latent variable emotional condition should have its items to measure the relationship between variables effectively. Thus, the restructuring of items for each latent variable will be reviewed and rearranged to ensure that the number of items measuring each construct is satisfactory in future research.

However, most urban rivers have today been abused and undervalued, and thus little conserved or re-opened up to celebrate these waterways. Malaysia is one of a number of countries whom have witnessed the former. In 2011, the River of Life (RoL) Entry Points Projects (EPP) was introduced to address this issue aimed towards revitalizing the Klang River into a heritage riverscape and a reinvigorated linear commercial centre for Greater Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley (GKL/KV). This paper discusses the heritage fabric at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak Rivers in portraying and narrating the importance of these rivers to the cultural identity of this precinct. Recognising these qualities will result in highlighting the cultural heritage values that need to be considered in recognizing this riverscape as a National Heritage asset. This paper also explored the historical and potential elements of the urban river in Malaysia through the mix method approach (Convergent Parallel). Research data was obtained from Malaysian authorities, using a top-down approach, through interview and visitor participant questionnaires to obtain convergence and divergence perceptions and patterns between these two sources of data. Data obtained sought to elucidate the cultural identity of this urban riverscape and its fabric from the perspective of both official participants perceived responsibilities and the interpretation of the riverscape from local respondent perspectives. The results of data from both participant types is crucial in offering new viewpoints towards a new to better adapt the government’s visions and visitor expectation about the future of this riverscape. This information could better enhance the tourism aspects of this area that has been highlighted as ‘National Key Economic Area (NKEA) 06: Tourism’, and to foster the integration of cultural heritage in an urban setting.

This dissertation examines the value of the concept of heritage curtilages in Malaysia, with an explicit focus on Kuala Lumpur. The concept is still relatively new in the field of heritage conservation and it is closely related to concepts of setting or context. Curtilage comprises a broader aspect as it takes into consideration all elements involved in retaining heritage curtilage and interpreting the significance of a specific heritage item within an area. Among these elements are the functional uses, visual links, scale and significant features. The conservation of heritage curtilage has the significant potential to enhance the richness and contextual settings of heritage buildings in Malaysia. While conservation efforts are improving, there is still limited research which focuses on the implementation of heritage curtilage as a conservation practice and a strategy. Moreover, it is necessary to improve understanding of how heritage curtilage relates to and enhances the significance of individual heritage places. This dissertation initially discusses the theoretical issues and complexities related to the definition of heritage curtilage, with reference to specific initiatives in Malaysia, as influenced both by the local legislators and international heritage organisations. This discussion is Those of us who have pushed for recognition of 'the intangible' in heritage work are also those who tend to stress the 'cultural' in cultural heritage. We try to resist the tendency of heritage discourse to reduce culture to things, we try to counter its privileging of physical fabric over social life (Bryne, 2009, p. 229). Conservation efforts have involved "social practices, skills, and traditions as the equivalent of heritage objects, places or landscapes" for comprehensive actions (Bryne, 2009, p. 229). These elements are priceless and irreplaceable. In this sense, heritage is clearly something of worth to be conserved, preserved, and protected. In Malaysia, the evolution and interest in conserving Malaysia's cultural heritage began more than twenty years ago with the formation of the Heritage of Malaysia Trust in 1993. The history of Kuala Lumpur changed when tin was discovered in Ampang in I 857. To cater for the need of residents and miners, a small trading post was constructed at the confluence between these two rivers. This business activity expanded eastwards to the Klang River resulting in one of the busiest business centres in Kuala Lumpur. Shophouses were erected and streets formed. These rows of shophouses and streets, with the river located to the west, created a rectangular space, known as the Old Market Square (Medan Pasar) which later became the main focal point of Kuala Lumpur. Today, even though the native senlements, chaotic sheds and huts have totally disappeared, some of the original shophouses, streets and even spaces still exist. Now, after more than 120 years this lake area still exists. This paper discusses the layers of history, symbolism and cultural values that the Padang contributes to the socio-cultural tapestry of both Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia, and the lack of relevant planning and heritage measures to conserve these attributes and characteristics. The conclusions offer avenues to engage with pre- and post-colonisation that enable re-making and the conservation of the iconic space of Kuala Lumpur. Keywords: Urban open space; Merdeka Square; Kuala Lumpur City Hall; National Heritage Act 2005eISSN: 2398-4287 © 2019.
