This study presents a prediction model using Machine Learning techniques to assess student satisfaction levels. The Gradient Boosting Machine (GBM) framework, enabled by Principal Component Analysis (PCA), was used to collect data from 1,237 students. The approach was compared to other ML models like Random Forest, Linear Regression, Naïve Bayes, and Support Vector Machine and trained and validated using 5-fold cross-validation. The PCA+GBM model scored most effectively of significant metrics, with 93% accuracy, 92% precision, 91% recall, and 91.5% F1-score. Policymakers and educational administrators can use the outcomes as an incentive to enhance the strategy and standard of Higher Education (HE) that are run in collaboration between China and foreign countries.

International journal of academic research in business & social sciences, Jan 4, 2024

Juvenile delinquency denotes unlawful and criminal actions carried out by individuals under the a... more Juvenile delinquency denotes unlawful and criminal actions carried out by individuals under the age of eighteen, encompassing a spectrum of offenses from minor transgressions like truancy to more serious crimes such as burglary and violence. Understanding the motivations behind a minor's criminal behaviour is crucial for preventing future offenses. Addressing the underlying circumstances influencing a child's decisions becomes instrumental in guiding behavioural improvements. Minors engaging in unlawful activities may face charges in a juvenile court, leading to potential sentences. The significant concern revolves around why children, who should be experiencing a secure and joyful childhood, attending school, and under familial protection, find themselves entangled in criminal activities. Equally troubling is the question of what awaits these young offenders upon their release and attempts at societal reintegration. Holistic intervention programs are imperative for these individuals, offering educational initiatives and skill-building to facilitate positive reintegration into the community. This approach aims to empower them to become productive adults, steering clear of a recurrence of their transgressions. This study investigates the risk factors influencing Malaysian youth to engage in criminal activities and explores protective factors that can impede their recurrence of offenses. Conducted through a basic qualitative study, the research employed semi-structured interviews with two probation officers in a central state district. Drawing from their experiences, both officers identified various risk factors, including parental disengagement, peer pressure, unfavourable living conditions, and societal indifference, which significantly contribute to youth involvement in criminal activities. Conversely, the study revealed that parents, family, schools, and society at large play pivotal roles in deterring juveniles from criminal behaviours. By shedding light on these factors, the research aspires to deepen our understanding of the dynamics influencing adolescent criminal behaviour and contribute to the prevention of juvenile delinquency.

Prolonged smartphone usage indicates obsession with the virtual world. As smartphone users include students from secondary school to tertiary levels, their constant engagement with mobile phones raises questions of addiction that may have negative consequences on academic performance. Hence the present study aimed to examine problematic smartphone use, hours spent, factors and activities involved, and argue the possible risks of phone addiction among Malaysian university students. The study employed a descriptive research design to collect data, while data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation, frequency and percentage. Fifty-five out of eighty students from a public higher learning institution responded to a survey. The results indicated that most of them somewhat agreed that they used smartphones without any compelling reasons at every hour and that it induced emotional stability. The findings implied that the students were somewhat addicted to smartphones but did not use their smartphones for academic purposes. It is expected that the findings from this study will help higher learning institutions to better understand the patterns of smartphone usage among university students and to reduce or control academically disruptive smartphone addiction behaviour.
