This autosomal recessive inherited condition has not been described in the otolaryngology literature before. We demonstrate the benefits surgical intervention, for treatment of gingival hypertrophy, can bring to the patient and outline the other features of this rare condition. The literature on juvenile hyaline fibromatosis and infantile systemic hyalinosis is also reviewed.

The condition was diagnosed as ulerythema ophryogenes and keratosis pilaris atrophicans faciei. The patient had the characteristic features of Noonan syndrome, including dysmorphic facial appearance, congenital heart disease, pectus excavatum, and cubitus valgus, accompanied by a tendency for keloid formation.

Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD) are lymphoid or plasmacytic proliferations t... more Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD) are lymphoid or plasmacytic proliferations that develop after solid organ, bone marrow or stem cell transplantation. PTLD are the leading cause of cancer-related mortality and graft loss in both pediatric and adult solid organ transplant recipients (ORT). These disorders comprise a spectrum ranging from usually EBV-driven, mostly B-cell polyclonal proliferations to B- and T-cell lymphomas indistinguishable from their counterparts occurring in immunocompetent individuals. PTLD usually present in extranodal sites; isolated skin involvement of PTLD is rare. A recent multicenter European case series showed that primary cutaneous T-cell PTLD are more common than primary cutaneous B-cell PTLD, and along with its folliculotropic variant, mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most frequent form of posttransplant primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). This case series also disclosed that primary cutaneous CD30+ lymphoproliferative disorders is ...

[2] Skin cancers are the most frequent malignancies in these patients, accounting for 37% of all de novo neoplasms. The cutaneous malignant rate is high, with a relative risk ranging from 3 to 9 times that in the general population. The presence of large numbers of melanocytic nevi is the best known risk factor for melanoma. 7-9 A few investigations have documented higher than normal numbers of melanocytic nevi in RTRs. 10,11 This case-controlled study was undertaken to investigate the numbers of acquired benign melanocytic nevi in adult RTRs.

It has been considered to represent an example of didymosis (twin spotting), which is a particular form of loss of heterozygosity. Cutis tricolor may occur as a cutaneous feature of various multisystem birth defects. We report two sisters with cutis tricolor. One of them had, in addition, unilateral hypoplasia of the breast. This familial occurrence of cutis tricolor may best be explained by the concept of paradominant inheritance. 2003.

In this method, materials are obtained by various techniques and then transferred to a glass slide. Slides can be stained with various dyes and then are examined under a light microscope. To date, cytology has mostly been used in the diagnosis of various erosive-vesiculobullous and nodular lesions, including many tumors. The sampling methods for Tzanck smears and the cytologic findings of a broad range of skin diseases that could provide a rapid diagnosis are described.

The study involved 228 patients with 242 lesions. For each case, two independent teledermatologists (A and B) evaluated digital images and clinical information by the conventional SAF method and gave a single diagnosis. Then, each communicated with the patient via Web cameras and gave a single diagnosis (combined method). Finally, teledermatologist A performed a face-to-face examination of each patient and established the gold standard diagnosis. With the conventional SAF method, the diagnostic accuracy of teledermatologist A was 81%, while that for teledermatologist B was 75%. With the combined method, the corresponding values were 90% and 82% (P<0.001 for both). There was no significant difference in the interobserver agreement between the two methods. Use of Web camera videoconferencing improved patient satisfaction with teledermatology. This method of teledermatology may be a useful alternative to the SAF method alone.

Research paper thumbnail of Isotretinoin does not prolong QT intervals and QT dispersion in patients with severe acne: a surprising finding for a drug with numerous side effects

Several adverse cardiac effects due to isotretinoin have been previously reported. However, no data exist on the effects of isotretinoin therapy on QT intervals. To investigate the effects of isotretinoin therapy on QT intervals and QT dispersion, and also to see if it is related to serum lipids, homocysteine and lipoprotein (a) or not. Forty-five patients with severe acne (mean age 21±6 years, range 14-38 years; 26 female) were included in the study. Twelve-lead surface electrocardiograms (ECGs) were acquired at three stages: before therapy and at the ends of the first and sixth months of 0.8 mg/kg/day of isotretinoin therapy. Serum levels of triglycerides, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, very low density lipoprotein cholesterol, homocysteine and lipoprotein (a) were also measured at the day of ECG recordings. Minimum and maximum QT intervals were...

It is most commonly localised on the palms. It is characterised by translucent papules, oedematous plaques and keratoderma developing after brief exposure to water and resolving shortly after drying. We have observed 10 patients with this disorder within 13 months. We think that aquagenic syringeal acrokeratoderma is a more common condition than was originally anticipated as one can easily underdiagnose this entity due to the transient nature of its clinical findings.
