Social distancing is an effective method for controlling the COVID-19 pandemic by decreasing popu... more Social distancing is an effective method for controlling the COVID-19 pandemic by decreasing population mobility, but it has also negatively affected local business sales. This paper explores the spatio-temporal impact of population mobility on local business sales in response to COVID-19 in Seoul, South Korea. First, this study examined the temporal variability by analyzing statistical interaction terms in linear regression models. Second, the spatio-temporal variability was captured using Moran eigenvector spatial filtering (MESF)-based spatially varying coefficients (SVC) models with additional statistical interaction terms. Population mobility and local business sales were estimated from public transportation ridership and restaurant sales, respectively, which were both obtained from spatial big datasets. The purpose of this paper is to present the necessity and possibility of geospatial virtual reali... more The purpose of this paper is to present the necessity and possibility of geospatial virtual reality (VR) in secondary education of Korea from teachers' perspectives through development and application of professional development program(PDP). Recently, the emergence of information technologies, such as virtual cities, digital globes, and virtual explorations open a new horizon for teaching and learning geography. This is, geospatial VR offers realistic 3D learning environments and provides immersive, engaging, and interactive experiences and virtual tours. Despite the opportunities of geospatial VR, there is still a lack of research on the PDP for teachers who apply it to the actual classroom. Therefore, this study developed a teachers' PDP based on the demand survey and expert advisory. After applying 15 hours of the PDP, we collected and analyzed data using the satisfaction questionnaires and focus group interviews with regard to the obstacles that teachers found in the PDP with VR and suggested several possible solutions from the viewpoint of teachers.

강릉 하시동 일대에는 하천과 단구, 사빈과 사구, 석호 등 동해안의 대표적인 지형들이 잘 발달해 있다. 이들 지형에 대해 연대측정, 지화학, 퇴적학 등 다양한 접근방법을 이용... more 강릉 하시동 일대에는 하천과 단구, 사빈과 사구, 석호 등 동해안의 대표적인 지형들이 잘 발달해 있다. 이들 지형에 대해 연대측정, 지화학, 퇴적학 등 다양한 접근방법을 이용한 여러 연구가 수행되었지만, 이 지역을 찾는 방문객들은 여전히 이러한 지형을 생소하게 여긴다. 이 연구의 목적은 하시동 지역의 자연경관에 대하여 지오투어리즘의 핵심요소인 지형명소로서의 가치를 평가하는 것이다. 이를 위해 지금까지 연구된 선행 연구들을 바탕으로 연구지역의 지형발달사를 재구성하였다. 재구성된 지형발달사는 다음과 같다. 플라이토세 고해면기를 거치면서 불화산과 새목이 등지에 해안단구가 발달하였다. 이후, 해수면 변화와 군선천 유로이동에 의해 하안단구 지형이 형성되었다. 풍호는 현재의 저위 단구에 군선천의 유로가 있을 때, 군선천의 하류에 해당하였다. 이곳은 약 6.5 ka 경에 호수가 되었으며 이후 수천 년간 석호의 형태를 유지했다. 같은 시기에 석호 전면부의 사주가 해안사구로 발달하기 시작하였으며, 해안 방향으로 전진하여 약 1 ka 또는 그 이후에 현재의 해안선에 도달하였다. 하시동 지역에 분포하는 다양한 자연지형들은 지역의 지리적 역사를 밝히는 지형명소로서 매우 높은 가치가 있다.
The main objective of the paper is to develop a GIS-based method for delineating spatial clusters... more The main objective of the paper is to develop a GIS-based method for delineating spatial clusters. Major tasks are: (i) to devise a sustainable algorithm with reference to various methods developed in the fields of geographic boundary analysis and cluster detection; (ii) to develop a GIS-based program to implement the algorithm. The main results are as follows. First, it is recognized that the AMOEBA technique utilizing LISA is the best candidate. Second, a modified version of the AMOEBA technique is proposed and implemented in a GIS environment. Third, the validity and usefulness of the modified AMOEBA algorithm is assured by its applications to test and real data sets.
The main purpose of this study is to analyze the patterns of internal migration in small and medi... more The main purpose of this study is to analyze the patterns of internal migration in small and medium-sized cities in relation to the housing market. Examining the characteristics of migration by the county level administrative units shows that major regional cities have a relatively large proportion of internal migration that migrants do not cross the administrative boundary. In theses cities, not only the ratio of apartments to total housing is high, but housing related factors are the biggest reasons for migration. The spatial patterns of internal migration were analyzed with a focus on the housing market in case of Gangneung with high internal migration. The results are as follows. First, as intensifying internal migration with the large supply of new apartments since 2014, areas where the supply of apartments was concentrated showed high level of net in-migration, while existing areas with large populations showed high level of net out-migration.
