Therefore, it is important to better understand how businesses will enhance the production of sustainable wealth. Recently, lean methods have been implemented in production systems in order to improve better efficiency. However, we must regularly assess the effect of these lean activities on the stable quality of the manufacturing sector. In order to achieve this, we undertook an extensive review to chart work on the partnership between lean and sustainable production sector results. Researchers examined this partnership from different perspectives and have taken a clear look at whether lean development methods are beneficial or detrimental to the competitive sustainable output of businesses. Most authors often claim that the interactions were contingent-based. This study suggests a new viewpoint on how to assess sustainable quality in a competitive manner across lean manufacturing practices and companies. It is appropriate that this partnership relies on the handling of lean paradoxical conflicts among manufacturing companies.

DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: This paper reviews and analyses the contribution of the manufacturing sector to the Sudanese economy, based on the comprehensive industrial survey carried out with the assistance of UNIDO and UNDP in 2001. It then goes on to assess the role that this sector can play in improving its contribution to the Sudanese and regional economy and achieving sustainable development. Evidence from global industrial views, international economic reports and experience of other countries in similar situations to Sudan was used to support arguments. FINDINGS: The Sudanese economy is agriculturally-based. A heavy injection of industrialization into the economy is essential in order to improve the trade balance and help the country out of the poverty zone. This paper argues that building a competitive manufacturing industry as an important element of sustainable development plan for Sudan is a shared responsibility of good governance, quality education and well-guided investment.

A new low-Reynolds number, two-equation turbulence model based on the variables q ≡ √k and ζ ≡ έ/... more A new low-Reynolds number, two-equation turbulence model based on the variables q ≡ √k and ζ ≡ έ/2q is described, this model and the low-Re model of Launder & Sharma are used to compute three different flat plate boundary layer flows within TC3. The computations are compared with experimental data from the zero pressure gradient boundary layer of Klebanoff [5], the adverse pressure gradient boundary layers of Samuel & Joubert, [6] and also for the favourable pressure gradient boundary layer, with the DNS data of Spalart, [8] and the experimental data of Jones & Launder, [7]. The q-ζ model is seen to perform slightly better than the k-e model and also exhibits considerable savings in computing time for the flows presented.
