The incidence and prevalence remain alarming. Knowledge and attitudes of nurses play a fundamental role in prevention. The aim of this study was to determine the knowledge and attitudes of nurses towards the prevention of PU in selected Slovak hospitals and find relationships and differences among selected variables. Methods: A quantitative exploratory cross-sectional design was chosen. Validated instruments were used. From the 460 randomly selected nurses, 225 (49%) participated in this research. Results: Results showed insufficient knowledge (45.5%) and attitudes (67.9%) of nurses towards PU prevention. There was a significant positive correlation found between the knowledge and attitudes (ρ = 0.300; p = 0.000). Nurses´ knowledge was significantly different within the level of education (p = 0.031) and work department (p = 0.048). Conclusions: Results show...

The knowledge about the prevention of infections with TORCH pathogens, including Toxoplasma gondii, Rubella virus and Cytomegalovirus, combined with the proper involvement in health educator's work may affect the creation of the correct attitudes and health promoting habits. Study objective-the evaluation of knowledge of nursing students of the State School of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska (Poland) and the University of Prešov (Slovakia) about the transmission routes and prevention of infections caused by T. gondii, Rubella virus and CMV in women during pregnancy. Material and methods. The study group included 158 nursing students from the State School of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska, and 240 students from the University of Prešov. An original questionnaire was used; it contained closed questions regarding the specific TORCH pathogens. Results. Correct answers to the question regarding the route of infection with T. gondii were provided by 43.5% of respondents from both universities; 42.5% knew the route of foetal infection with T. gondii, whereas 79.9% knew the methods to diagnose toxoplasmosis. Respondents knew consequences of infections caused by Rubella virus to the foetus (79.4%). Students of the State School of Higher Education (90.5%) and students of the University of Prešov (44.6%) were aware of the importance of rubella vaccination as a method of prevention of infection with Rubella virus. Conclusions. Nursing students are familiar with the methods used in the diagnostics of toxoplasmosis and the consequences for the foetus resulting from infections with Rubella virus. However, the awareness regarding the transmission routes of T. gondii and prevention of infections caused by Rubella virus and CMV was insufficient.

Therefore, systematization of techniques and definitions is essential for the improvement of knowledge in the area. Objective: This paper systematically describes and compares up-to-date methods that assess habitual physical activity and discusses main issues regarding the use and interpretation of data collected with these techniques. Methods: A general outline of the measures and techniques described above is presented in review form, along with their respective definition, usual applications, positive aspects and shortcomings. Results and Conclusions: The various factors to be considered in the selection of physical activity assessment methods include goals, sample size, budget, cultural and social/environmental factors, physical burden for the subject, and statistical factors, such as accuracy and precision. It is concluded that no single current technique is able to quantify all aspects of physical activity under free-living conditions, requiring the use of complementary methods. In not too distant future, devices will take advantage of consumer technologies, such as mobile phones, GPS devices. It is important to perform other activities, such as detecting and responding to physical activity in a real time, creating new opportunities in measurement, remote compliance monitoring, data-driven discovery and intervention.

This paper reports findings from a study that aims to identify the factors that may influence the effectiveness of clinical supervision for community mental health nurses (CMHNs) in Wales, UK. Two hundred and sixty (32%) CMHNs from an estimated total population of 817 completed the Manchester Clinical Supervision Scale (MCCS) and a demographic questionnaire. The MCCS is a 36-item questionnaire measuring the quality and effectiveness of the supervision received. Three-quarters of CMHNs reported having participated in six or more sessions of supervision in their current posts. Clinical supervision was more positively evaluated where sessions lasted for over one hour, and took place on at least a once-monthly basis. Perceived quality of supervision was also higher for those nurses who had chosen their supervisors, and where sessions took place away from the workplace. These findings have important implications for the organization and delivery of mental health nursing services.

Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: In the period October 2011 to April 2012 we conducted research on 405 mothers of infants living in the Slovak Republic, particularly in the regions of Prešov (56.0%) and Košice (20.5%). The questionnaire, of our own design, integrated 13 factors. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics and logistic regression (95% CI). Results: The first CF was introduced at 5.5 months (M = 5.47; SD = 1.22; range 1.0 to 10.0). Early introduction of CF was identified in 24.2% of children. A significantly higher risk of early introduction of first CF was found in respondents with: lower maternal age (OR = 4.436), lower levels of education (secondary education without GCE/vocational qualifications-OR = 10.140), lower maternal awareness of healthy nutrition (OR = 2.996), lower levels of satisfaction with their financial situation (OR = 1.927), and in single mothers (OR = 5.143), and children receiving combined milk nutrition rather than purely breastfeeding (OR = 3.888). Conclusion: Recognition of the factors leading to early introduction of CF allows the implementation of effective prevention strategies by health professionals.

In the present study, we compared the knowledge level of diabetes self-care in two groups of patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 on insulin treatment according to their having received/not received education on the disease and treatment by professionals. The sample included 289 patients with diabetes type 2 treated with insulin from Presov region. Patient knowledge was assessed by use of the standardized Diabetes Knowledge Test. Using the standardized Diabetes Care Profile questionnaire, Education section and guidance provided in Diet section on providing patient education by health professionals, the respondents were divided into two groups of patients with and without education. The level of knowledge related to diabetic self-care differed significantly between the two groups in favor of the patients having received education by professionals. However, the overall knowledge score of educated pati...
