In response to research aims, objectives, and questions, the researcher adopted mixed methods with the use of quantitative and qualitative approaches. While pre-test and post-test were adopted to collect quantitative data to measure whether the use of PBL promoted students’ performance after action research interventions, student questionnaires and teacher interviews were respectively used to collect quantitative and qualitative data of students’ perceptions of using PBL to promote their writing performance. The study aimed to answer the two questions, which are the difficulties encountered by English majors and their suggested solutions to improve their learning of British-American literature/literary. The target audience was 100 English majors who have studied English-American literary works at CTU, Vietnam. A questionnaire and an interview were used to collect data for this study. A questionnaire was used to support quantitative data while an interview was used for the qualitative method. The study was conducted at 4 high schools in Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City, namely Phan Ngoc Hien High School, Chau Van Liem High School, An Khanh High School, and Nguyen Viet Hong High School. Visual Aids can improve students’ long-term memory process. Besides, we do not have a deep understanding of how to use VS in the right way and at which level VS can engage students learning process. In this paper, the researchers focused on summarizing teachers’ perceptions of how to use VS effectively and the hypothesis of these teachers’ experiences to gain a result on how teachers could use VS to engage students in their learning process. A mixed-methods design (Creswell & Creswell, 2018) was adopted in this action research to examine... more A mixed-methods design (Creswell & Creswell, 2018) was adopted in this action research to examine the effects of reading strategy instruction with four reading strategies - previewing the text, predictions, text-structure awareness, inferencing - on reading performance of non-English majored freshmen in English preparation classes of a private university in Vietnam. Thirty-six students in pre-intermediate English proficiency level participated in the study. Over six weeks, these students received the four reading strategies instruction explicitly in accordance with CALLA model. Via the explanatory sequential design, a type of mixed methods research involves two-phase data collection (Creswell & Creswell, 2018). The results of the pre-post-tests and 11 closed-ended response items in the paper-based questionnaire were analyzed quantitatively while 6 interviews were analyzed qualitatively to provide further explanations of the quantitative results. This study aims to investigate two issues. Firstly, it explores English as a foreign language (EF... more This study aims to investigate two issues. Firstly, it explores English as a foreign language (EFL) high school teachers’ practices of testing and washback in teaching reading comprehension. Secondly, their perceptions of its washback effects are scrutinized. Content analysis, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews were employed to collect data. Sixty teachers at some high schools in Can Tho City, Vietnam were contacted to answer the questionnaire. In the end, five of them were selected to take part in the interviews. The findings indicated that designing tests has a beneficial impact on reading for EFL learners in the areas of students' passion for reading, decreasing reading boredom, students' interest in reading text content, and students' development of thinking skills. It has an impact on the teachers' time allotment, teaching strategies, and instructional materials. Article visualizations:

The study focused on six (6) learning strategies, including (1) Memorization, (2) Cognitive, (3) Metacognitive, (4) Compensation, (5) Affective, and (6) Social, which were applied in four English skills belonging to English for Tourism courses. A hundred-item questionnaire was administered to investigate the perception and practice of learning strategies and interviews for students and teachers were employed to examine students’ practice of their involvement in learning strategies activities and discover teachers’ observations of students’ practice in their class. At Can Tho University, Translation courses are considered a useful subject not only for translation majors but also for all English- majored students. In the fourth academic year, students participate in some translation courses. For English-majored students in general, the Translation courses are aimed not only at providing intensive training on translation skills but also at reinforcing knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.
