Few will deny this. Implementations of such databases are underway. This presentation examines the issues involved in these efforts. Legacy databases in non-relational and non-spatial form are at once a strength and weakness for this implementation. Functional capabilities in GIS including ease-of-use and database linking will enable success of these efforts. A vision of where we need to go and strategy for getting there will be presented. Dan Martin, Archaeologist GPS/GIS, (National Applied Resource Sciences Center) Bureau of Land Management Implementation of SHPO Data sharing in the Western U.S. What's an SHPO and why share data? Public Law (NHPA 1966) The National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and its 36CFR800 regulations accomplished several things. A...

Agency archeologists can open ArcMap, choose Add Data>Add ArcGIS Server or ArcIMS Server with other datasets to work. Site and Areas Inventoried locations and tabular data are available. Using Mobile GIS, archaeologists are able to go afield with existing data on their handheld, edit extant data or collect new data that becomes part of the record without need for data re-manipulation so that errors are reduced. Such systems are operational many places. Sources of such data are diverse. Exception to access is in some of the Wildland Fire situations where such capabilities would often save sites, life and property. Discussed are Fire scenarios, such as the Incidence Command during a fire and rehab situations, etc. with discussion of what the challenges are to realize capabilities throughout the Fire system. ________________________________________________ For ...
