This document reports the results of a case study in September 1997 to assess the level of multisectoral involvement in Kabarole District Uganda. This district considered a model in the country’s fight against HIV/AIDS was chosen as the site for the District Response Initiative a project sponsored by several international agencies. The Initiative based on a systems model is comprised of a two-week situation analysis composed of three studies at the community and organizational levels. Results show that more than half (6/10) of the departments of the public sector are already actively involved. In addition several partners from the private sector have a strong to medium response. However several key actors from the private sector such as tea factories and private ...

It is also called as a decentralized system in which accumulation of devices are provided with wireless communication interface. A wireless sensor network (WSN) is topographically circulated self-administering sensors. It is used to monitoring physical or ecological conditions. For example temperature, sound, weight and at the same time send the assembled data through the network to the destination. A remote sensor network (WSN) has incredible applications for example, target following and remote natural observing. This paper is about routing protocol covering their advantages and disadvantages furthermore including the correlation between these routing protocols on the basis of performance analysis.

The study focuses on the educational processes involved in the translation of Uganda's environmental policy into action at community level. It looks at community-based education and development activities run by VEDCO among smallholder farmers. The study addressed four objectives. For the first objective I developed a conceptual framework through a review of theories informing education in general and environmental education, adult education, community education, and community development in particular. The second objective was to conduct a situational analysis to identify contextual issues related to policy implementation at community level. The third objective was to engage in a participatory action research process with the NGO in the farming community in re...

The major goal of the research was to critically examine educational activities aimed at addressing the challenges of sustainable development in rural areas of the two countries in order to draw some lessons to inform the implementation of the decade of education for sustainable development. The paper is premised on the view that education is not neutral and reiterates the importance of approaching education practice from a more critical and open-minded perspective. It highlights the philosophies of education, environment and development as the major currents informing EfSD, thus making it a multidimensional endeavour both at the practical and theoretical levels. It reiterates the need to critique the philosophical positions of educators as the first step in reorienting education into EfSD. The results demonstrate the need not to only contextualise EfSD programmes but also broaden the scope to address other socio...

The study used Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology to explore how educational methods employed in community-based environmental education programmes were empowering communities to respond appropriately to environmental challenges. A community-based rural development programme by Volunteers Efforts for Development Concerns (VEDCO), a local NGO in central Uganda, was used as a case to critically explore the community-based environmental education processes. The programme aimed to empower smallholder farmers economically and socially through training in sustainable agriculture, land use and management, agric trade and microfinance. Through a critical analysis of the different educational processes this paper exemplifies how contradictions, inconsistencies and tensions in educational theory undermined practice and affected the character of the programme, its implementation and outcomes at community level. It f...
