Miracles real GDP per capita exhibit at least one unit root whereas disasters is either stationary or has a negative unit root. Average growth rates appear to be significantly different. Average population growth rate is stationary for disasters, for miracles the existence of a negative unit root cannot be rejected. Consumption for miracles is either stationary or tends to decline, for disasters is stationary or tends to increase. Investment average and volatility are apparently significantly greater for miracles. Government expenditures for disasters are non stationary, for miracles are stationary with an incipient tendency to decline. Moreover, average government expenditures apparently are greater and more volatile for disasters. Finally, openness is stationary for disasters and for miracles it has at least one unit root.

Research paper thumbnail of NSAID exacerbated respiratory disease: a meta-analysis evaluating prevalence, mean provocative dose of aspirin and increased asthma morbidity

Allergy, Jan 8, 2015

The prevalence and mean provocative dose of oral aspirin (MPDA) triggering respiratory reactions ... more The prevalence and mean provocative dose of oral aspirin (MPDA) triggering respiratory reactions in people with asthma has been inconsistently reported, and the relationship between NSAID exacerbated respiratory disease (NERD) and asthma morbidity less well quantified. A systematic review was performed identifying studies diagnosing NERD using blinded, placebo-controlled oral provocation challenge tests (OPCT) or by self-reported history in people with asthma. Data were extracted and effect estimates for changes in respiratory function, MPDA and asthma morbidity were pooled using random-effects meta-analysis. The prevalence of NERD in adults with asthma was 9.0% (95%CI 6-12%) using OPCTs and 9.9% (95%CI 9.4-10.5%) using self-reported history from questionnaires. The MPDA in adults with NERD was 85.8mg (95%CI 73.9-97.6). In people with NERD, risk of: uncontrolled asthma was increased two-fold (RR 1.96 (95% CI 1.25-3.07)); severe asthma and asthma attacks was increased by 60% (RR 1.58...

During the period 1990–1991, the California Newborn Screening Program for phenylketonuria (PKU) instituted a lower phenylalanine cutoff for early-collected specimens because of the expressed concern in some reports that missed cases

Patients with histologically confirmed metastatic or metastatic plus locally advanced breast cancer received gemcitabine 1,200 mg/m(2) on days 1 and 8 and paclitaxel 175 mg/m(2) on day 1 every 21 days for 8 cycles. From December 1999 to August 2001, 45 patients, with a median age of 53.5 years (range, 22-77), received a total of 260 cycles. All were assessable for response and toxicity. Twenty-seven patients had prior adjuvant therapy. Hormonal receptor status was positive in 31.1% and negative in 40.0% of patients. Main metastatic sites included soft tissue (62.2%) and lung (53.3%). The objective response rate was 66.7%; complete response, 22.2%; partial response, 44.4%; stable disease, 15.6%; progressive disease, 17.8%. Median duration of response was 18 months and median time to tumor progression was 11 months. Grade 3/4 leukopenia, neutropenia, and thrombocyto...

In this paper, four commonly used measures of institutional protection of private property rights are assessed, including their relative ability to predict the level of GDP per capita. The risk of expropriation measure from the International Country Risk Guide, the rule of law measure from the World Governance Indicators, and the property rights index from the Economic Freedom of the World exert a similar and robust positive impact on the level of economic development. The executive constraints measure from Polity IV exerts a much smaller impact, and is sensitive to the model specification. The relative strengths and weaknesses of each measure are also addressed. The analysis provides researchers with guidance on selecting an appropriate measure of private property institutions for studies of economic performance.

Our main objective is to study the problem of stabilizing periodic motions, which resemble some form of juggling acrobatics. To this end, we approach the problem by considering the framework of virtual holonomic constraints. Under this basis, we provide an analytical and systematic solution to the problems of trajectory planning and design of feedback controllers to guarantee orbital exponential stability. Results are presented in the form of simulation tests.
