Construction is no exception, where software and data analysis are used to improve the processes of control and monitoring of construction projects. Most of the analysis are based on a key-value perspective analysis of the data. However, an emerging Process Mining discipline has proven to be able to capture a different process perspective. This interdisciplinary work is a step on this direction, proposing the Constraint Bag Process Model (CBPM), a novel use of Process Mining for answering process-oriented questions on construction projects.

The on line management of the information allows users to share and access from different places. One of the most critical points in the management of this information is that the experimental protocols must be stored in a single way, thus a relational data base was proposed. On the other hand, the generation of different questionnaires associated to a protocol implies that database structure should consider different form and sizes so the use of a NoSQL database is proposed thus ensuring the system to upgrade and be adaptable to several kind of studies.

Despite it has been studied for many years, there are still unpredictable problems that can affect the final quality of the product. One of them is the so-called chatter, that is a powerful self-excited vibration that appears suddenly and limits the productivity of the process. In this paper, a visual analytics approach is considered for exploratory analysis in order to discover and understand the factors and conditions under which chatter appears. An interactive web-based interface is presented here which allows the user to explore a map of dynamical conditions and visualize relevant details of each chatter onset. A validation case is performed using real data where normal/fault conditions have been identified automatically. By means of interactive exploration, the tool allows to refine an automatic chatter detection method. Moreover, it is shown to reveal correlations between variables, providing in some expected cases databased confirmation, but also revealing less obvious relationships. Finally, it provides context, allowing to carry out comparative analysis, both qualitative and quantitative, for different subsets of coils (e.g. different years) as well as for different working conditions.

While these make it possible to present visually the high-dimensional data in 2D or 3D, it remains a challenge for users to make sense of such projected data. Recently, interactive techniques, such as Feature Transformation, have been introduced to address this. This paper describes a user study that was designed to understand how the feature transformation techniques affect user's understanding of multi-dimensional data visualisation. It was compared with the traditional dimension reduction techniques, both unsupervised (PCA) and supervised (MCML). Thirty-one participants were recruited to detect visual clusters and outliers using visualisations produced by these techniques. Six different datasets with a range of dimensionality and data size were used in the experiment. Five of these are benchmark datasets, which makes it possible to compare with other studies using the same datasets. Both task accuracy and completion time were recorded for comparison. The results show that there is a strong case for the feature transformation technique. Participants performed best with the visualisations produced with high-level feature transformation, in terms of both accuracy and completion time. The improvements over other techniques are substantial, particularly in the case of the accuracy of the clustering task. However, visualising data with very high dimensionality (i.e., greater than 100 dimensions) remains a challenge.

These activities are part of the Internet Laboratory Reactor project, which it is framed in an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency. In the project, also participate other invited institutions of Colombia and Ecuador. The host reactor will facilitate online access to the data and video signals of experiments during transmission sessions to the invited institutions. The access to these data and video signals in the invited institutions will be done using a web and video conferencing platform.

For this purpose, a complex ship piping system is designed to operate in firefighting and bilge services through jet pumps. The system is solved as pressure-dependent model by the piping system analysis software EPANET and by a mathematical approach involving a piping network model. This results in a functional system that guarantees the recommendable ranges of hydraulic state variables (flow and pressure) and compliance with the rules of ship classification societies. Through this research, the suitability and viability of pressure-dependent models in the simulation of a ship piping system are proven.

In this contribution a new module in MADA (groundwater management model) based on the inclusion of a simulationoptimization model to minimize the operating cost in the aquifers exploitation is proposed. The proposal uses a two-dimensional simulation model of groundwater flow (AQÜIMPE) based on the finite element method. The response matrix approach is used to link AQÜIMPE with a quadratic programming problem, which is solved using the function quadprog of the mathematical assistant MATLAB. The model is applied in the administration of the exploitation in the Cuenca Sur aquifer, an exploitation policy is obtained that allows to save around a 15% of pumping costs relative to the cost of the actual operation in the year 2007. In addition, the obtained exploitation pattern satisfies a set of constraints of water demand, aquifer levels and installed capacity in each operating well.
