Compressed between the Member States' reluctance to give up competence in a strategic sector like... more Compressed between the Member States' reluctance to give up competence in a strategic sector like energy, and the necessity to regulate the energy market as a step towards the completion of the European Union (hereafter "EU") single market, the EU has put in place an innovative governance structure that now may be regarded as a model also beyond the European continent, in particular within the World Trade Organization (WTO). This new form of governance has fostered inclusiveness in the decision-making process with the participation of national energy regulators and energy stakeholders.
