This study addresses the theme "Literacy of children in the early days of Brasilia: a singular hi... more This study addresses the theme "Literacy of children in the early days of Brasilia: a singular history" and it is linked to the research project "Public Basic Education in the Federal District (1956-1964): Origins of an innovative project." With this study, we tried to identify and contextualize the origins of Brasilia's children education, with special emphasis on political and literacy practices of children adopted in the public schools of the Federal District. Resorted to the vast collection of documents and audiovisual said the research project, which adopted the methodology of oral history, in addition to performing and analyzing new interviews with two literacy pioneer teachers of Brasilia's children education. The research highlights the implications arising from the new educational proposal devised by Anisio Teixeira, toward the education of students. The interviews with pioneer teachers reveal an unparalleled dedication, leaflets and reinventing methods for literate children. Even reflecting the beliefs and views prevailing at the time in the field of literacy, the pioneer teachers allowed creating, reinventing and innovating pedagogical actions in this field. And certain policies, practices and methodologies in the field of literacy, currently labeled as innovative, as were adopted at that time, should be recognized and be continued.
