India has access to several natural resources because of its diverse Agro-climatic conditions and... more India has access to several natural resources because of its diverse Agro-climatic conditions and a wide-ranging and large raw material base suitable for vegetable cultivation. This study was purely based on secondary data as collected from reports from Horticulture at a Glance, Agriculture at a glance and the Indiastat site. The trends of area, production, and productivity were estimated from the period 2001–2002 to 2021–2022, under tomato cultivation. The Study period was further divided into three subperiods: period I (2001–2011), period II (2011–2022), and the overall period (2001–2022). The compound growth rates of area, production, and productivity computed at the national level was 2.93 percent, 4.89 percent, and 1.90 percent, respectively and in Uttar Pradesh it was found 3.81, 13.22 and 9.11 percent. This study showed that the percentage share of Uttar Pradesh under Tomato cultivation was higher than in the whole of India.

It focused on the age, community, education level, family size, farming experience, source of credit etc. In cage and pen culture system the maximum percentage of people fall in the age group of 30-39 with 34.72 and 43.05 percentage. Out of the four selected communities, OBC is the predominant among them. The result of the study revealed that 19.44 percent of illiterate respondent comes under pond culture. Cage culture and pen culture has recently introduced in inland sector in India therefore in terms of experience both category respondents have less experience. In pen culture 90.28 percent of people have only 1-4 years of experience category whereas in case of pond culture 56.94 percentage of respondents have experience above 10 years. India is the second largest producer of tea in the world, and India has world‟s largest consumers of tea. Plantation sector contributes to the employment both directly and indirectly to Indian people. Out of the total population of India, more than two million people are engaged in plantation sector directly and another six million peoples are indirectly engaged plantation sector (Gholam Abbas Darvishi and Indira, 2013) 1 . Tea is mainly cultivated in North-East and Southern part of India. Tea has different varieties, which can be cultivated in different regions of India. It can be classified into ten distinct tea producing regions, which are Darjeeling, Assam, Dooars and Terai, Kangra, Nilgiri, Annamalai, Wayanad, Karnataka, Munnar, Travancore.
