The present study was aimed to assess the role of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and cephalograms as far as the selection of right implant length is concerned. Materials and methods: The study includes 220 patients for whom radiographic and follow-up records were obtained. There were 105 males and 115 females in the age range of 22 to 58 years. A total of 98 implant sites in different edentulous areas were studied. Length of implant was predicted at treatment planning and compared with finally placed implant at surgical stages. It also includes the in-depth exploration of (1) number of implants placed per patient, (2) implant per edentulous areas, (3) implant location, and (4) implant region. For prediction of implant lengths, CBCT results were obtained and compared with cephalometric findings. Accuracies of implant lengths as planned by CBCT and cephalometric images were also studied at treatment planning and surgical stages. Statistical analysis and results: Upon statistical comparisons, we found that larger implant lengths chosen at treatment planning stage did not change in 65.5% of patients. In addition, the smaller length implants were just about the same as that with larger dimensions. The CBCT results were satisfactory (up to

Oral rehabilitation presents a variety of clinical situations needing fabrication of prostheses t... more Oral rehabilitation presents a variety of clinical situations needing fabrication of prostheses that could satisfy the overall requirement of the patients. In various prosthodontic procedures, exact articulation of the maxillary cast to the articulator necessitates minimum three reference points that could decide the plane to which maxillary cast is mounted. Therefore, the correct choice of reference points in anterior and posterior areas is very crucial failing which one can end up with fabricating intolerable prosthesis. This reference plane is usually created by two points located posterior to the maxillae and one point located anterior to them. In general, the two posterior points are located by measuring prescribed distances from the skin surface landmarks. Literature has well evidenced various anterior and posterior points of reference used for mounting the maxillary cast on the different type of articulator systems. The most common reference plane is the Frankfort plane, which has been assumed to be horizontal when the patient is in the natural head position. However, this relationship is not simply opening or closing, but a complex relationship which exists in three dimensions. Variations may occur in any direction-superoinferior, anteroposterior, or mediolateral. Thus, it is essential to record this relationship with the least possible error to obtain a successful prosthesis.

High accuracy in planning and execution of surgical procedures is important in securing a high-success rate without causing iatrogenic damage. [1] This can be achieved by computed tomography (CT), three-dimensional implant planning software, image-guided template production techniques, and computer-aided surgery. The success of implant therapy depends primarily on appropriate treatment planning and properly performed implant placement surgery. Misaligned placement of the implant is a very common dilemma that frequently complicates the clinical laboratory procedures intended for the fabrication of superstructures. This actually necessitates a close collaboration of prosthodontists and surgeons to work jointly as a team that will facilitate the precise preparation of the surgical stent or surgical guide. By definition, a stent is an appliance used for radiographic evaluation of height and width of the available bone during treatment planning for implant placement or during surgical procedures to provide the site for optimum implant placement. The use of surgical guides to implant placement will undoubtedly assist the surgeon to create biomechanically sound implant locations. It also dictates to the surgeon about the implant body placement that offers the best combination of support for the repetitive forces of occlusion, esthetics and hygiene requirements. The desired configuration of the surgical stent is determined by the prescribed prosthesis. The surgical template dictates to the surgeon the implant body placement that offers the best combination of (1) support for the repetitive forces of occlusion, (2) esthetics, (3) hygiene requirements. [2,3] Literature evidenced various methods of fabrication for the surgical template. The requirements are more relevant than the

Over the years, it has received a number of methodologies by several researchers utilizing various anatomical landmarks however none of them is considered as perfect that could orient ideal occlusal plane. The presented literature review is an attempt to enlighten historical perspectives, pioneer researches, different controversies, difficulties and current trends for re-establishment of lost occlusal plane in edentulous patients. An extensive literature search was performed using Medline/PubMed interface and other scholarly research bibliographic databases using Medical Subject Headings. Studies describing research studies, case series and assorted clinical reports were retrieved and evaluated from 1963 to 2013. Most of the studies have suggest and evidence to consider Camper's plane for artificial orientation of occlusal plane however there is a substantial lack of genuine long term studies and authentic data that could recommend a single reliable landmark for perfect occlusal plane reorientation in a variety of cases.

Comparative evaluations of gingival retraction systems are done rarely mainly because there is no consensus on the evaluation criteria. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effi cacy of three different gingival retraction systems, i.e., Magic Foam Cord, expasyl paste, and aluminium chloride-impregnated retraction cord. Materials and Methods: Following impressions, obtained casts were measured for gingival sulcus opening width under optical microscope (with imaging system software). The presence of bleeding after removal of material, ease of procedure, and patient's comfort were also evaluated. The data collected were tabulated and subjected to statistical analysis. Results and Conclusion: Evaluation of the clinical effi cacy is relatively diffi cult because of the lack of appropriate measuring tool. In addition, choice of appropriate gingival retraction system is still a dilemma for the operator. Moreover, a particular clinical situation may indicate the specifi c technique.

Because of significant advancement in the design of implants and modifications in the procedure of dental implant surgery, the survival rate of the dental implants has reached up to approximately 95%. Osseointegration is one of the important factors affecting the survival of dental implants. Apart from these, the body's physiologic alterations can also predispose the dental implants for failure. Diabetes is one such metabolic disease characterized by abnormal or delayed wound healing. Hence, we assessed the clinicomicrobial and salivary profile of diabetic patients undergoing rehabilitation by dental implants. Materials and methods: This study included diabetic patients who underwent dental implant surgeries for prosthetic rehabilitation. Follow-up records of the patients' up to 1 year were maintained. Various clinicoradiographic and periodontal parameters were measured at various time intervals during follow-up time; 25 mL of salivary and blood sample was taken from all the subjects and was sent to the laboratories for assessment of various salivary biomarkers. All the results were analyzed by Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software. Results: The mean level of interleukin-β at baseline time was found to be 2.38 and 2.21 in diabetic group and control group
