Methods. 14 coal samples being a part of the raw material base of coking and chemical enterprises of Ukraine were studied. In terms of the samples, the parameters of technical, petrographic, and ultimate analysis were identified. GOST 21153.1-75 Rocks. Method of determining the Protodyakonov strength coefficient and ISO 5074:2015 Bituminous coal. Determination of Hardgrove grindability index were used to identify coal grindability. Graphical and mathematical dependencies between the indices of coal quality (R0, Vdaf, Cdaf, Oddaf) and values of its grindability (f and HGI) were developed. Findings. The obtained mathematical and graphic dependencies of the effect of different indices of coal quality (R0, Vdaf, Cdaf, Oddaf) on the values of i...

The noncatalytic oxidative desulfurization process of straight-run kerosene and diesel fractions ... more The noncatalytic oxidative desulfurization process of straight-run kerosene and diesel fractions with high sulfur contents due to their treatment with air without using expensive catalysts and strong oxidants is considered. The research was carried out in a periodic mode in a bubble-type reactor with a volume of 1 × 10 −3 m 3 under the following conditions: 180−200°C; 2.5−3.0 MPa; the process lasted for 20−30 min; the air/raw material ratio was 1.6−2.2 m 3 /min per 1 m 3 of raw material. The process can be used to obtain industrial jet fuels and diesel fuel components with good lubricating properties. The possibility and expediency of carrying out the process in the presence of water have been studied. The ratio of water/ raw materials (vol.) varied from 0:1 to 2:1. It was proven that the water presence in the reaction medium has a positive effect on the studied process and decreases the oxidation intensity of hydrocarbon medium by 2−4 times. This is due to both the slowing of oxidation reactions by water during peroxide decomposition and chain growth and branching and the partial change in chemical oxidation with the formation of phenols and/or tertiary alcohols, which are inhibitors of oxidation reactions. On the other hand, water has almost no effect on the removal degree of sulfur compounds.
Experiments show that the oxidation of bituminous coal from the Zasyad'ko mine at 60°C in lab... more Experiments show that the oxidation of bituminous coal from the Zasyad'ko mine at 60°C in laboratory conditions increases its expansion pressure from 5.2 to 30.0 kPa in 28.3 days. Oxidation occurs in stages, as already demonstrated for Ukrainian and imported coal of different metamorphic stages on oxidation in the laboratory and in industrial trials at other temperatures. The rate constant in the initial stage of oxidation is 0.4095∙10min at 60°C.Saturation of the middle stage metamorphism coal with oxygen on oxidation increases the viscosity of the plastic mass that forms and increases the volume of gas and vapor products. Ultimately, that results in increase in the expansion pressure as the coal is oxidized.

The reactions of coal with the materials used in determining the ignition temperature of unoxidiz... more The reactions of coal with the materials used in determining the ignition temperature of unoxidized coal according to Ukrainian State Standard DSTU 7611:2014 are analyzed. First, the ignition temperature of various types of coal from Ukraine, Russia, Canada, Australia, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Indonesia is determined. The influence of the composition, structure, and properties of the coal on its ignition temperature is assessed. The ignition temperature of the unoxidized coal is found to be closely related to the content of organic carbon Cdaf and aromatic carbon Car, the structural parameter δ characterizing the degree of saturation of the coal’s organic mass, and also the vitrinite reflection coefficient Ro and the yield of volatiles Vdaf.

A more promising approach is prediction on the basis of the elementary and pet rographic composition of the coal batch.

To carry out marking of existing deposits of brown coal in accordance with domestic and international classifications. To give a comparative assessment of the distribution of balance reserves of brown coal in accordance with different classification systems. Methodology. Reserves and quality indicators data for brown coal in Ukraine were taken from the site of the State Research and Production Enterprise State Information Geological Fund of Ukraine and on the basis of our own research. Some quality indicators were calculated according to the formulas given in the periodical scientific literature. Ukraines brown coal reserves were estimated using Ukrainian and international brown coal classifications. Findings. It is confirmed that the balance reserves of brown coal in Ukraine are located in Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, Kirovohrad, Kharkiv and Cherkasy regions and are (thousand tons): categories A + B + C1 2,593,359; category C2 299,181. In the article the chemistry of the noncatalytic oxidative desulfurization process of distillate ... more In the article the chemistry of the noncatalytic oxidative desulfurization process of distillate oil fractions is analyzed. The study involves the characteristics of high-sulfur straight-run diesel fraction of narrow composition (593–623 K) before and after oxidation by air at 453–493 K and a pressure of 3.0 MPa. The composition of sulfur compounds in the raw material fraction was determined. It is shown that straight-run fractions of raw materials may also contain sulfoxides, which are products of oxidation of organosulfur compounds and are formed during storage of petroleum products. On the basis of IR spectroscopic studies of raw materials, oxidized products and model mixtures, the transformation depth of fr. 593–623 K sulfur compounds, which are distributed in the form of sulfones and sulfoxides in solid and liquid oxidation products, and partially remain in the purified fuel, was analyzed in the above-mentioned process.
