In a variety of solid tumors, radioguided surgery (RGS) has been used to guide surgical resection. Gallium 68 (68Ga) dota peptides have been shown to be more accurate than other radioisotopes for detecting NETs. A pilot study previously demonstrated the feasibility and safety of 68Ga-dotatate RGS for patients with NETs. To evaluate what intraoperative techniques and thresholds define positive lesions that warrant resection during 68Ga-dotatate RGS. This prospective cohort study, conducted between October 23, 2013, and February 14, 2018, included 44 patients with NETs who underwent 68Ga-dotatate RGS. Gallium 68-dotatate RGS. The in vivo and ex vivo tumor to background ratio (TBR) was assessed for resected lesions and correlated with the histopathologic findings. Forty-four patients (22 women and 22 men; mean [SD] age, 51.0 [13.7] years) had 133 lesions detected on preoperati...

However, there is scant objective data in the literature on the rate and need for intervention in hyperglycemia in patients undergoing resection of insulinoma. The goal of our study was to evaluate the rate of postoperative hyperglycemia, any predisposing factors, and the need for intervention in a prospective cohort study of all patients undergoing routine glucose monitoring. A retrospective analysis of 33 patients who had an insulinoma resected and who underwent routine postoperative monitoring of blood glucose (every hour for the first six hours then every four hours for the first 24 h) was performed. Hyperglycemia was defined as glucose greater than 180 mg/dL (10 mmol/l). Twelve patients (36%) developed hyperglycemia within 24 h (range 1-16 h). In patients with hyperglycemia, the mean maximum plasma glucose level was 221.5 mg/dL (range 97-325 mg/dL) (12.3 mmol/l), and four...

Mitochondrial glycerophosphate dehydrogenase (mGPDH) is the key enzyme connecting oxidative phosp... more Mitochondrial glycerophosphate dehydrogenase (mGPDH) is the key enzyme connecting oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) and glycolysis as well as a target of the antidiabetic drug metformin (MF) in the liver. There are no data on the expression and role of mGPDH as a metformin target in cancer. In this study, we evaluated mGPDH as a potential target of metformin in thyroid cancer and investigated its contribution in thyroid cancer metabolism. We analyzed mGPDH expression in 253 thyroid cancer and normal tissues by immunostaining and examined its expression and localization in thyroid cancer-derived cell lines (FTC133, BCPAP) by confocal microscopy. The effects of metformin on mGPDH expression were determined by qRT-PCR and western blot. Seahorse analyzer was utilized to assess the effects of metformin on OXPHOS and glycolysis in thyroid cancer cells. We analyzed the effects of metformin on tumor growth and mGPDH expression in metastatic thyroid cancer mouse models. We show for the fir...

Matrix tablets of rhubarb were prepared by wet granulation method using polysaccharide, that is, pectin (10%) alone and in combination with hydrocolloids, that is, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) in different concentration of 5, 10, and 15%. Each formulation was characterized in terms of hardness, friability, drug content, disintegration time and in vitro drug release study. On the basis of release profile in the presence of pectinase enzyme after 6 h, formulation containing 10% pectin with 10% HEC was selected as an optimized formulation which was not able to retard the drug release in stomach and upper intestine environment completely. So, it was further coated with eudragit S-100 (ES 100) as a pH sensitive polymer in different coat weight of 3 and 6% w/w. The results obtained reveal that pectin based matrix formulation containing 10% HEC with 6% coat weight of ES 100 exhibited a promising colon targeting performance. There was no significant variation found during stability studies.

In a prospective observational study conducted at our tertiary eye centre, donated corneas received over a 15-month period from November 2011 to January 2013 were evaluated. Donor age, donor refrigeration (done or not), DPT, endothelial cell density (ECD), corneal grading, clinical utilisation and surgical outcome after graft transplantation were noted. To analyse the impact of different DPT on donor cornea transplantation, primary outcome measures (corneal grading and endothelial cell density) and secondary outcome measures (primary graft failure and graft infection) were analysed. A total of 990 corneas were assessed. Primary outcomes showed no significant difference for higher DPT ( P > 0.01). ECD, where DPT was >12 h, was better for refrigerated corneas ( P < 0.001). Prolonged DPT had no significant effect on primary graft failure ( P = 0.131) and graft infection ( P = ...

A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication system combined with the orthogonal frequen... more A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication system combined with the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation technique can achieve reliable high data rate transmission over broadband wireless channels. Channel state information for both single-input single-output (SISO) and MIMO systems based on pilot aided arrangement is investigated in this paper. The estimation of channel at pilot frequencies with conventional Least Square (LS) and Minimum Mean Square (MMSE) estimation algorithms is carried out through Matlab simulation. The performance of MIMO OFDM and SISO OFDM are evaluated on the basis of Bit Error Rate (BER) and Mean Square Error (MSE) level. Further enhancement of performance can be achieved through maximum diversity Space Time Block Coding (STBC) and Maximum Likelihood Detection at transmission and reception ends respectively. MMSE estimation has been shown to perform much better than LS but is more complex than LS for the MIMO system using pilot carriers.

Some of the systems are for predicting a single disease and some for the predicting the multiple diseases. Still there is scope to improve the efficiency of the disease prediction. In this synopsis, we are presenting a novel classification based disease prediction system. It uses the concept of classification using the decision tree. Our proposed technique uses greedy approach to select the best attribute for construction of the decision tree. The modified information gain is used. The attribute with highest information gain is selected as the root of the tree. The experimental results have shown that the proposed algorithms classify the data sets more accurately and efficiently. In this synopsis, we have also presented an overview of existing data classification algorithms. These algorithms are described more or less on their own. Data Classification is a very popular and computationally expensive task. We have also elaborated the fundamentals of data classification. From a large number of available algorithms that have been developed we will compare the most important ones.

Nephrotoxicity was induced by a single dose of cisplatin (5 mg/kg body weight i.p.). Cisplatin administration resulted in significant increases in urine volume, serum creatinine and urea and significant decrease in creatinine clearance and urinary sodium in comparison with control. Also, the renal tissue from the cisplatin treated rats showed significant decreases in the kidney glutathione content, superoxide dismutase and catalase activity and a significant increase in lipid peroxides levels. Seven days after M. pruriens extract at a dose of 200 and 400 mg/kg plus cisplatin treatments significantly decrease urea, creatinine and significantly increase creatinine clearance levels as compared to cisplatin rats in a dose dependent manner. In addition, M. pruriens prevented the rise of lipid peroxides and the reduction of superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione activities in a dose dependent manner. These results suggest that M. pruriens extract has protective effects against cisplatin induced oxidative stress and nephrotoxicity in rats.

This study explored the adsorption and crystal growth inhibitory effects of polyvinylpyrrolidone ... more This study explored the adsorption and crystal growth inhibitory effects of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) on indomethacin crystals in an aqueous medium. A solution depletion method was used to construct adsorption isotherms of PVPs with different molecular weights and N-vinylpyrrolidone onto indomethacin crystals. The affinity for and extent of maximum adsorption of PVP on indomethacin crystals were significantly higher than that of N-vinylpyrrolidone, which was attributed to cooperative interactions between PVP and the surface of indomethacin. The extent of PVP adsorption onto indomethacin crystals in terms of mg/m 2 was greater for higher molecular weight PVP but less on a molar basis indicating an increased percentage of loops and tails for the higher molecular weight PVP. PVP significantly inhibited the crystal growth of indomethacin at a high degree of supersaturation as compared with N-vinylpyrrolidone, which was attributed to a change in indomethacin crystal growth mechanism leading to a change in the rate limiting step from bulk diffusion to surface integration. Higher molecular weight PVPs are better inhibitors of the crystal growth of indomethacin than lower molecular weight PVPs, which was attributed in part to a greater barrier for surface diffusion of indomethacin provided by a thicker adsorption layer of PVP.
