This new species is distinguished from other species of Dendropsophus by its small size (SVL 18.7–21.1 mm in adult males and 19.6–23.2 mm in females); in life, dorsal ground coloration brown, with two anterior parallel and straight, dark brown stripes and a middorsal sacral stripe; and lateral limits of dorsal coloration above tympanum. In addition, the new species differs from all other species of the D. rubicundulus group (along with D. anataliasiasi) by having a composite advertisement call, i.e., a series of calls consisting of two call types. In a phylogenetic tree based on 494 bp of the 16S mitochondrial gene, four species of Dendropsophus, D. cruzi, D. juliani, and D. sanborni and one candidate species, D. juliani A, are positioned within the rubicundulus species group which poses questions on the monophyly of this group as well as its morphological definition. Because most species are difficult to diagnose and several currently recognized species might represent more than one lineage, tadpoles can contribute to the resolution of taxonomic problems (Rossa-Feres & Nomura 2006).

There is no effective pharmacological treatment for fatigue, although a few reports point towards beneficial effects from physical activity for MS patients suffering from fatigue. We devised a physical activity program for MS patients with fatigue and present the results from our first use of this program, on nine patients from our region. The program consisted of a 20-week series of gradual stretching, resistance and aerobic exercises, adapted to the individual clinical condition of each patient. The results showed significant improvement in cardio-circulatory parameters, as well as a significant decrease in scores on the fatigue scale. The success of this program led patients to ask to continue with it after the trial was finished, and more patients are enrolling in the program, motivated by the good results reported by fellow patients.

Those records represent, respectively, a southeast range extension of ca. 30 Km east and ca. 60 Km southeast from the previously known locality of Ipameri. All known populations of S. centralis remain restricted to the Paranaíba River basin, and with exception of Orizona, all localities from where the species is known to occur are inside priority areas for conservation of biodiversity in Cerrado and Pantanal.

Research paper thumbnail of The Tadpole ofBokermannohyla flavopictaLeite, Pezzuti and Garcia, 2012 and Oral Cavity Anatomy of the Tadpole ofB. oxenteLugli and Haddad, 2006 (Anura: Hylidae)

We collected tadpoles of B. flavopicta at Serra do Barbado, Abaíra municipality, Chapada Diamantina, Bahia state. At Gosner stage 36, the tadpole of B. flavopicta has a depressed body with low tail fins and a broad, ventral oral disc bordered by a single row of marginal papillae, with a narrow gap on the anterior labium; submarginal papillae present in small amounts mostly on the commissure and on the anterior labium of the oral disc. The most common labial tooth row formula is 2(2)/7(1). The overall OCA of both species is similar, but can be distinguished mainly by the number of buccal roof papillae per side, shape of pre-narial arena ridge, and infralabial and lingual papillae morphology. The internal and external morphology of these larvae are compared with available descriptions for larvae of other species placed in the B. pseudopseudis group, and we comment on characters that best distinguish species within this group. Finally, the anteroposterior row of papillae in the prenarial arena (proposed as putative synapomorphy for the B. pseudopseudis species group) was also observed in B. flavopicta and B. oxente tadpoles, reinforcing the importance of larval external and internal characters in anuran comparative morphology research.

On 17 February 2015, at 17:15 pm, we observed an individual of Cariama cristata feeding upon an adult of L. microcephalum, near an Atlantic Forest fragment (lat=-20.783333°; long=-42.866672°; datum=WGS84), in Municipality of Viçosa, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil (Figure 1). During our observation, when the individual of seriema noted our approach, it flew and dropped the individual of smallhead slow worm on the ground. After this, we collected it (license permit ICMBio 45889-1) and deposited it in Coleção Zoológica de Referência da Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul (ZUFMS-2288).

The Brazilian government agencies considered this region as a priority area for conservation and inventories. In order to fill this biodiversity knowledge gap, we conducted a ten-day rapid inventory of the anuran fauna from April 11 to 20, 2014, surveying different physiognomies of the region. We recorded 19 anuran species belonging to five families: Bufonidae (2), Hylidae (5), Leptodactylidae (9), Microhylidae (2) and Odontophrynidae (1). Most inventories of Caatinga amphibians published to date have been conducted inside protected areas and/or of high altitude (mesic areas known as "brejos de altitude"). The list we present herein contributes to the knowledge of lowland Caatinga sites outside protected areas. We discuss our results in light of taxonomic and geographic features of the anurans sampled.

Method: PD patients were assessed before and after six months of a tailored physical activity program. Twenty PD patients (13 M, 7 F), mean age 55 years. Aerobic, resistance and stretching exercises. No special apparatus or machine was used at any stage of the program. There was no interference with the pharmacologic treatment, which remained at the discretion of the physician in charge. Fatigue, disability, joint amplitude, cardiorespiratory parameters and body fat composition were assessed. Comparisons were performed using the Student's t-test at baseline and after six months. Results: There was a significant (p<0.001) and positive effect of this physical activity program in all assessed parameters. Conclusions: Despite this chronic, disabling and progressive neurological disease, PD patients showed significant improvement in all assessed parameters after participating in a specific and tailored physical activity program.
