Micelleforming amphiphilic systems based on polymers and dendrimers are particularly preferred over small molecule amphiphiles, due to their ability to sequester and release a vast library of hydrophobic guest molecules at micromolar polymer or dendrimer concentrations. Here we review a relatively underexplored, yet rapidly advancing, field of amphiphilic systems based on a dendritic architecture that exhibit stimuli sensitive behaviour. In particular, we will be focusing on stimuli such as temperature, pH, enzymatic and non-enzymatic proteins. These stimuli-responsive systems offer a unique opportunity in the field of drug delivery and sensing.

Semantic Wikis are one of the most successful Semantic Web applications. In semantic wikis, wikis pages are annotated with semantic data to facilitate the navigation, information retrieving and ontology emerging. Semantic data represents the shared knowledge base which describes the common understanding of the community. However, in a collaborative knowledge building process the knowledge is basically created by individuals who are involved in a social process. Therefore, it is fundamental to support personal knowledge building in a differentiated way. Currently there are no available semantic wikis that support both personal and shared understandings. In order to overcome this problem, we propose a P2P collaborative knowledge building process and extend semantic wikis with personal annotations facilities to express personal understanding. In this paper, we detail the personal semantic annotation model and show its implementation in P2P semantic wikis. We also detail an evaluation study which shows that personal annotations demand less cognitive efforts than semantic data and are very useful to enrich the shared knowledge base.

DBpedia extracts information from Wikipedia and stores it in a semantic knowledge base. This semantic feature allows complex semantic queries, which could infer new relations that are missing in Wikipedia. This is an interesting source of knowledge to increase Wikipedia content. But, what is the best way to add these new relations following the Wikipedia conventions? In this paper, we propose a path indexing algorithm (PIA) which takes the resulting set of a DBPedia query and discovers the best representative path in Wikipedia. We evaluate the algorithm with real data sets from DBpedia.

Some of them are typical of "conventional" software while others are idiosyncratic of CSCW applications (e.g., awareness). We claim that separating concerns fosters tailorability. While existing approaches for groupware design deal with the basic problem of separation of concerns (e.g., using well-known object-oriented techniques), they do not address the problems triggered by crosscutting concerns -i.e., when the realization of the same concern is scattered along multiple components, or when different concerns are "tangled" in the same component. This paper presents a concern-oriented approach to requirement specification of groupware, characterizing the situations in which crosscutting exists. It follows the Theme approach for identification and design of crosscutting concerns, uses AOP to eliminate tangling and scattering, and proposes a concern centric approach to groupware tailorability.

Convection prevents low-energy particles from penetrating into the wind, leading to an absence of MeV-GeV counterparts. It is argued that groups of stars located close to the CR acceleration sites in OB stellar associations may be detectable by ground-basedČerenkov telescopes.

The nature of this system is unknown: both a black hole and a pulsar have been invoked as possible compact object companions. Here we work with a model of the high energy phenomenology of the system in which it is assumed that the companion object is a pulsar rotating around an O6.5V star in the ∼ 3.9 days orbit. The model assumes two different sets of power-law spectral parameters of the interacting primary leptons corresponding to the two orbital phase intervals defined by H.E.S.S. as having different gamma-ray spectra and very-high-energy (VHE) cutoffs. We show the H.E.S.S. phenomenology is completely explained by this model. We present predictions for photons with lower energies (for E > 1 GeV), subject to test in the forthcoming months with the GLAST satellite. We find that GLAST is able to judge on this model within one year.

Photopion and proton-proton interactions could then lead to copious production of neutrinos. In this work, we analyze the hadronic microquasar model, particularly in what concerns to the neutrino production. Limits to this kind of models using data from AMANDA-II are established. New constraints are also imposed upon specific microquasar models based on photopion processes. These are very restrictive particularly for the case of SS433, a microquasar for which the presence of accelerated hadrons has been already inferred from iron X-ray line observations.

The results are compared with those corresponding to ordinary lensing in similar strong field situations.
