The design is divided into two parts - the first explains the way of generating a magnetic flux, the second aims to present power supply for the generator. In order calculations to be validated, the magnetic flux generator has been drawn and simulated in COMSOL Multiphysics modelling software. On the other hand, the power supply has been simulated in LTSpice. Some key characteristics of the generator have been elaborated on the basis of the simulation results.

The converters are structured as modules made of five or six units working on a common load. Models of five-phase and six-phase converter are made in LTSpice software. In this research a spectral analysis is performed of the load current when currents amplitude of each source changes. The comparison is made for the same output power.

Analytical determination of the losses is derived and compared with the results of the simulations. The compared converters are realized and investigated experimentally. Thermographic images are used to analyze the dissipated losses in the two converters and each of their components. A methodology for magnetic components loss calculations is proposed targeting loss optimization.

Defining the load of the power supply by its power over time requirements and using some approximations (combination of linear and constant segments only for the power profile of the load) allows the circuit to be analytically solved and expressions found for the capacitor′s voltage and current over time. These analytical results can be used to choose the supercapacitor size by postulating only its initial and final voltage depending on the segment. The approach used allows for sizing the supercapacitor for wide variety of applications by only requiring the power demand of the load to be known. The model is verified by means of simulation and experimental results.

The converter is intended for charging energy storage elements, such as supercapacitors. The examination of the converter is performed with respect to different constructions of the high frequency transformer. Two arrangements of the transformer windings are presented – transformer with sectioned windings and interleaved windings. The results show that an asymmetry into the primary windings influence the operating mode of the converter.

The model is based on lookup tables, which makes it easy to implement in complex battery bank models, containing a large number of cells. The proposed model allows determining the state of the charge for any current based on interpolations. The developed model takes into account the variation of the battery usable capacity by discharging with different C-rates. The model is also applicable for cells with different capacities or different characteristics, according to experimental measurements or the producer datasheets. The model input variables are the discharge current of the cell and the initial State of charge and the outputs are the cell voltage and the cell State of charge. The developed model is validated by experimental results.

It is studied the voltage variation of the auxiliary secondary winding, used for supplying the transistors drivers, connected in the main secondary winding. Its voltage changes depending on the current used for charging the supercapacitors and the voltage across them. The equations shown can be used for engineering design of the high frequency transformer.

Nowadays switched-mode power supply (SMPS) are used in wide range of applications, meaning they are exposed to diverse perturbations, which can lead to undesired behavior. That’s why the good design and stable behavior of the SMPS is so critical and may be crucial for some applications. The focus of this article, and its main point is to show us, which of currently available ways for analyses during the design phase, is mostly representative to the real case measurements. The results of the described below different design approaches, will be compared and analyzed by their pros and cons.
