The aim of this study is to validate the Childbirth Expectation Questionnaire (CEQ) in a sample of Spanish pregnant women; 231 women responded to the CEQ during their first trimester of pregnancy and 106 of them completed a re-test at the third trimester. Exploratory analyses with 1-to-6 factor solutions were carried out to investigate the internal structure of the CEQ. The three-factor solution (spousal support and control, medical support and environment, and labor pain and distress) showed the best properties in terms of model fit, number of items per factor, and item loadings. The internal consistency of scales was also good (.79 ≥ α ≤ .93). Test-retest analyses showed significant intercorrelations between expectations from the first to the third trimester of pregnancy. There is a need to assess childbirth expectations, and our results suggest that the CEQ is a valid and useful instrument to be used among Spanish pregnant women.

Bell peppers grown outdoors (130 samples) or in a greenhouse (264 samples) during the 2015 and 2016 seasons were selected for this purpose and analysed using a portable, handheld, microelectromechanical system (MEMS) instrument MicroPhazir (spectral range 1600-2400 nm), working in reflectance. Subsequently, the potential of NIR spectroscopy as a non-destructive sensor for in situ quality (dry matter and soluble solid content) measurements, was investigated. The models correctly classified 89.73% and 88.00% of the samples by growing system, when trained with unbalanced and balanced sets respectively, mainly due to the differences in physical-chemical attributes between bell peppers cultivated in the two growing systems. Separate classification models for bell peppers grouped by...

Using both its static and dynamic operating modes (on a conveyor belt), simulating the movement of the product in the plant, the predictive capabilities of both modes of analysis were assessed and compared, for the purposes of predicting moisture, protein, and ashes. The results show that both exhibit highly similar degrees of precision and accuracy for predicting these parameters. This research provides a foundation of scientific-technical knowledge, hitherto unknown, regarding the “on-line” incorporation of an instrument (equipped with a 100 m fiber optic cable) into a processing plant of by-products of animal origin.

We also point that In the steady-state open system the constant supply of glucose makes equivalent the minimum rate of entropy production per unit of time to the minimum rate of production of entropy per mole of glucose.

Research paper thumbnail of Agreeableness and pregnancy: Relations with coping and psychiatric symptoms, a longitudinal study on Spanish pregnant women

Although different studies have indicated that agreeableness is related to adaptive coping, this relation has scarcely been studied in pregnant women. The aim of this study was to analyze the possible differences between high and low agreeableness in relation to coping strategies and psychiatric symptoms in pregnant women. We conducted a longitudinal prospective study between October 2009 and January 2013. Pregnant women (n = 285) were assessed in the first trimester of pregnancy, and 122 of them were assessed during the third. Data were collected using the Coping Strategies Questionnaire, the Symptom Check List 90-R, and the agreeableness subscale of the NEO-FFI. Using the SPSS 21 statistics package, binary logistic regression, two-way mixed analysis of variance, and multiple regression analyses and a Sobel test were conducted. Higher levels of agreeableness were associated with positive reappraisal and problem-s...

The enzyme was purified, using basically a couple of chromatography process on DEAE-Sephacel. It is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight estimated to be 60.2 kDa based on its mobility in SDS-PAGE and 115 kDa based on gel filtration. N-linked carbohydrate accounts for 12% of the total mass. It exhibited optimum activity at pH 5.5 and 45 degrees C. Thermostability analysis indicated that it was stable to thermal treatment up to 50 degrees C; 50% of the activity was maintained after 3 h. The rate parameters measured for the hydrolysis of starch and various chain length malto-oligosaccharides shows high catalytic efficiency, calculated by the relationship V(cat)/K(m), for malto-oligosaccharides, such as maltotriose (873 mM(-1) min(-1)),...
