In particular, TV bands have been shown to have unused spectrum. Such observations have triggered strong interest in white space dynamic spectrum access among researchers, wireless equipment manufacturers, and standards development organizations. The IEEE Standards Committee on Dynamic Spectrum Access Networks has created the White Space Radio Working Group in June 2011 to develop the IEEE 1900.7 standard for white space dynamic spectrum access radio systems. The standard was published in February 2016. This paper gives an overview of key concepts and technologies of the IEEE 1900.7 standard, including use cases and requirements, physical layer and MAC sublayer.

It limits the size of the software to a small set of parameters thereby decreasing the radio reconfiguration time. In the proposed research, we refine the Common Operator (CO) technique, which defines a multi standard terminal, based on a limited set of Common Operators. This method enhances the reconfigurability and the scalability of the design but leads to a complex management of data dependencies and scheduling of each operator for its correct execution in the terminal. In this paper, we present a new organization in bank (COB) not only to mitigate the scheduling issue but also to maintain the flexibility and the optimization inhere in the technique. The COB benefits from the property of the CO though limiting the main part of the scheduling. The COB creates a scalable design, limits the scheduling and reduces the number of operators. Applied in the case of LFSR targets to a tri-standard terminal, it lowers the hardware complexity by up to 40%.

The baseline for this implementation is the recent IEEE 1900.7-2015 standard introduced in Chapter 2. To our knowledge, this is the first worldwide standard based on an FBMC air interface or, more generally speaking, on a nonorthogonal waveform. After a brief introduction, which highlights the benefits of FBMC in the context of TVWS, we describe the implementation using a frequency domain approach (namely Frequency Sampling FBMC, FS-FBMC). We show that this technique is very well suited for uncoordinated multiuser scenarios. We discuss the complexity of FS-FBMC implementation. Then, we analyze a flexible architecture that can manage FS-FBMC and OFDM modes with a discussion of the impact on the waveform on hardware constraints.

SDR provides the reconfigurability needed to switch from one standard to another. In this context and because it will reduce the size of the software to be downloaded, parameterization is an active research topic and appears as a keystone of SDR. Thereby, this paper points out an Extended Reconfigurable Linear Feedback Shift Register Based (ER-LFSR) structure, which can realizes several front rank operations of multi mode CR transceivers. Focused on OFDMbased Air Interfaces, the selected approach was to define a range of operations applying like-looking structures. In so doing, we specify two parameterizable structures to fulfill functions such as Pseudo Random Sequence Generators, Scrambling, Convolutive Coding, Cyclic coding, Reed-Solomon Coding or Reed-Solomon decoding.

The thermal management of such 3D module has been identified as a critical issue. The proposed multi-strata and multi-chiplet package is studied by means of numerical simulations with a focus on its thermal and thermo-mechanical behavior. After a description of the FO-WLP technology, a first part is dedicated to thermal simulations. After identifying the thermal impact of several parameters, we propose two thermal improvements: 1/ the addition of a thin graphite heatspreader on top of the 3D module. 2/ Solder a large area of the 3D module on a highly thermally conductive substrate in order to improve the bottom heat removal, as it is done in power module packaging. The second part is dedicated to the thermo-mechanical study of the 3D module and more precisely to the comparison between a ball grid array and the proposed thermal solution with the "central solder heatsink".

The IEEE 1900.7 working group has defined a specific air interface tailored to these applications. The standard, is based on an Filter Bank Multi Carrier (FBMC) physical layer and a CSMA-CA MAC sublayer. In this paper, the Modulation and Coding Schemes (MCS) of the IEEE 1900.7-2015 are considered to assess simulated expectations on throughput and coverage under various typical TVWS deployment scenarios: Fixed Long Range Access, campus WLAN (in Fixed Urban/Suburban environments), Indoor Femtocells (a TVWS low power transceiver for WLAN-like applications). Expected rate and coverage maps are provided for these scenarios.
