In particular, this study examines the extent to which clients’ religious commitment moderates the association between their perceptions of their therapists’ cultural humility and therapy outcomes. The sample included 45 clients, all of whom identified their religion/spirituality as the most salient aspect to their cultural identity. The results demonstrated that perceptions of cultural humility were positively associated with therapy outcomes. However, this effect was moderated by clients’ religious commitment. The relationship between perceived cultural humility and outcomes was positive for clients with higher religious commitment, whereas it was not different from zero for clients with lower religious commitment. Implications for research, theory, and practice are offered.

The present study tested these hypotheses with a sample of 432 first-time college freshmen pursuing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) majors. Students completed baseline perfectionism scales and repeated measures for perceived academic stress at monthly intervals 3 times in the fall semester and 3 times in the spring semester. Course grade data from institutional records were used to calculate first-year STEM grade point average (GPA) as the distal outcome in analyses. Gender, high school GPA, SAT math scores, and university were covariates. Latent profile analyses supported adaptive, maladaptive, and nonperfectionist classes and latent class growth mixture models identified distinctly low, moderate, and high patterns of academic stress over the year. Latent transition analyses indicated...

Humility involves (a) an Accurate View of Self and (b) the ability to regulate egotism and cultivate an other-oriented stance; IH is a subdomain of humility that involves (a) having an accurate view of one's intellectual strengths and limitations and (b) the ability to negotiate ideas in a fair and inoffensive manner. First, we present a theoretical framework for distinguishing these constructs. In Study 1, with a sample of undergraduate students (N = 1097), we used confirmatory factor analysis to provide empirical evidence for this distinction. We also found that IH predicted unique variance in openness to experience relative to GH. In Study 2, we examined additional evidence of discriminant validity with another sample of college students (N = 355). IH also predicted unique variance in need for cognition, objectivism, and religious ethnocentrism relative to GH.

The overall purpose of the present 4 studies was to develop the Sources of Spirituality (SOS) Scale to measure these different elements of spirituality. In Study 1, we created items, had them reviewed by experts, and used data from a sample of undergraduates (N = 218) to evaluate factor structure and inform initial measurement revisions. The factor structure replicated well in another sample of undergraduates (N = 200; Study 2), and in a sample of community adults (N = 140; Study 3). In a sample of undergraduates (N = 200; Study 4), we then evaluated evidence of construct validity by examining associations between SOS Scale scores and religious commitment, positive attitudes toward the Sacred, an...

The Young-Davidson mine is a lode-gold deposit that at least in part was structurally controlled. It experienced polyphase deformation and contains multiple generations of auriferous veins. Four stages of veining (V1–V4) occurred after the emplacement of the host Neoarchean syenite. V1–V3 veins formed during Neoarchean time and were responsible for the major phase of gold mineralization of the Young-Davidson deposit. Crosscutting V1–V3 veins is a distinct group of V4 planar to en echelon carbonate-quartz ± hematite ± epidote veins, which also cut both of the Neoarchean syenite and Paleoproterozoic Matachewan diabase dyke. Hydrothermal monazite extracted from the V4 veins gives a 235U-207Pb age of 1730 ± 5 Ma. This represents the first Paleoproterozoic age reported from Neoarchean gold deposits of the southern Abitibi subprovince. The hydrothermal activity was most likely related to the far-field 1750–1700 Ma Killarnean or Yavapai magmatism and metamorphism event that ultimately reactivated the pre-existing Neoarchean structures. This Paleoproterozoic activity provides a new perspective for understanding Neoarchean lode-gold deposits of the Abitibi.

The current investigation conceptualizes sanctification of forgiveness as imbuing forgiveness with sacred meaning. In Study 1 (N = 425), we developed a scale to measure to sanctification of forgiveness, and we provided evidence for construct validity. Exploratory factor analyses revealed

In three studies, we provide evidence that humility facilitates the initiation and maintenance of romantic relationships. In Study 1, very humble potential dating partners, relative to less humble partners, were rated more favorably and were more likely to elicit intentions to initiate a romantic relationship. Study 2 was a conceptual replication of Study 1 that provided evidence that participants find humble potential dating partners more attractive than arrogant dating partners. In Study 3, we examined perceptions of humility in participants in proximal or long-distance relationships. We found that humility buffers against unforgiveness in long-distant relationships. Although long-distance relationships were associated with greater unforgiveness, this effect was only present when partners were viewed as having low humility. Together, these findings highlight the social benefits of humility in initiating and maintaining romantic relationships.

Participants (N = 221; 141 F and 80 M) completed a battery of questionnaires. We hypothesized that (a) anxious and avoidant attachment would be negatively linked to dispositional forgiveness; (b) the anxious attachment-forgiveness link would be mediated through excessive rumination; (c) the avoidance attachment-forgiveness link would be mediated through lack of empathy; and (d) the insecure attachment-depression relation would, in turn, be partially mediated by the forgiveness process. SEM modeling confirmed these propositions, revealing the potential deleterious outcomes associated with insecure attachment and unforgiving responses to offenses.

Having an interpersonal conceptualization of forgiveness was positively related to a collectivistic worldview. Also, an interpersonal conceptualization of forgiveness was positively related to forgiveness measures that stressed interpersonal interactions with the offender. However, an interpersonal conceptualization of forgiveness was positively related to a general measure of forgiveness only for those participants who were in a continuing relationship with the offender. The current research is an important step in understanding the contexts in which one's conceptualization of forgiveness may influence its practice.

The raised, nodular lesion was skin colored, had a raised pearly border and a central depression with superficial crusting. Basal cell carcinoma was suspected and an excisional biopsy was performed. However, a granulomatous inflammatory process with features consistent with gout was identified. Further inquiry confirmed a history of gout including prior tophi on each elbow. Gouty tophi are extremely rare in the periocular area but should be considered in the differential diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma as they may have a similar clinical appearance.

A 62-year-old woman was referred with foreign body sensation, irritation, photophobia and decreased vision in the left eye. She was initially treated for 10 months with intermittent topical corticosteroids for a presumed diagnosis of SLK. She underwent excisional biopsy of the superior conjunctiva and was found, on histopathologic evaluation, to have OSSN with moderate to marked dysplasia. This is the first reported case of OSSN masquerading with signs and symptoms of SLK. Any ocular surface lesion refractory to standard medical treatment should raise suspicion for a malignant process and warrant further cytologic or histopathologic evaluation.

To our knowledge, this is the first donor eye implanted with this design to undergo pathological analysis. High-frequency ultrasound showed a well-centered IOL, fixated at the level of the capsular bag. Gross and light microscopic analyses of the eye showed that if anterior and posterior capsule openings are well stretched around the optic of this IOL design, proliferative/regenerative material is potentially confined to the intercapsular space of the capsular bag remnant outside the optic rim. Dr. Tassignon is the inventor of the bag-in-the-lens intraocular lens. No other author has a financial or proprietary interest in any material or method mentioned.

The excessive capsule fibrosis led to anterior flexing of the IOL haptics in both cases, even in the presence of a capsular tension ring (CTR). Histopathological analyses revealed a thick fibrocellular tissue attached to the inner surface of the anterior capsules, corresponding to the anterior capsule opacification and folds. An amorphous substance was observed on the outer surface of the anterior capsule in the case with a CTR, suggesting pseudoexfoliation material. These and similar cases raise concerns about the postoperative behavior of highly flexible IOLs in the presence of excessive capsular bag fibrosis. No author has a financial or proprietary interest in any material or method mentioned.

These assemblages record magmatic episodes at 2897, 2852, and 2744 Ma. Voluminous plutonic rocks within the belt range in age from 2894 to 2730 Ma, with a concentration at 2744 Ma. U–Pb data also show that a regional fault that transects the belt, the Savage Island shear zone, is not a terrane-bounding structure. The youngest sedimentary group in the belt, the Island Lake Group, has an unconformable relationship with older plutons. Sedimentation in this group is bracketed between 2712 and 2699 Ma. This group, and others similar to it in the northwestern Superior Province, is akin to Timiskaming-type sedimentary groups found throughout the Superior Province and in other Archean cratons. These data confirm that this belt experienced a complex geological history that spanned at least 200 million years, which is typical of greenstone belts in ...
