Adaptive web is a new era of web targeting to provide customized and personalized view of contents and services to its users. Integration of these two technologies can further add to reasoning and intelligence in recommendation process. This chapter explores the existing work done in the area of applying intelligent approaches to web personalization and highlighting ample scope for application of intelligent agents in this domain for solving many existing issues like personalized content management, user profile learning, modelling, and adaptive interactions with users.

These dynamically formed networks provide data communication facility even when mobile network is not in range. However it is a cooperative network based on cooperation of participating nodes, which spend their battery while passing data packets from one node to the other. Since battery life is a critical issue with mobile devices, in case of low battery life mobile nodes participating in a MANET stop forwarding packets. This situation is termed as selfish behaviour of nodes and is a serious problem in MANETs. This work presents an agent based mechanism to detain selfish behaviour of nodes in MANETs. Nodes in MANETs turn selfish due to lack of any direct benefit of participation except for energy consumption.However if participating nodes are facilitated for their participation, it may reduce selfish behaviour to some extent. Since the system is designed using software agents (SAs), it ensures highly desired full automation in web recommendations. The proposed system has been evaluated and the results suggested that there is an improvement in positive feedback rate and the decrease in recommendation rate.

Although both the languages are more or less similar in terms of semantics (based on speech act theory) and offers cutting edge competition while establishing agent communication across Internet. But in contrast to the fact that software agents operating on the internet are required to be more safeguarded from their counter-peer, both the protocols lack security performatives. The paper proposes a three tier security interface with few novel security related performatives enhancing the basic architecture of KQML. The three levels are attestation, certification and trust establishment which enforces a tight security and hence reduces the security breeches.

Data mining techniques find their applicability in such scenario. Data mining concepts and techniques when applied to WWW with its existing technologies are termed as web mining. Web mining can change the way results are provided to user queries presently i.e. ranked list of keyword based results. This work focuses on proving agent-based framework for mining semantic web contents employing clustering techniques. Clustering will help provide user with query relevant cluster of web contents, which will better satisfy user requirement and will provide optimal utilization of web surfing time.
