This study aims to find the thoughts and movements carried out by Abdusshamad al-Palimbani. The m... more This study aims to find the thoughts and movements carried out by Abdusshamad al-Palimbani. The method used in this research is a literature study or library research, by combining activities related to library data collection methods, reading, collecting, and processing research materials consisting of books, manuscripts, and hand scripts. The findings of this research showed that Abdusshamad al-Palimbani had broad ideas to build Muslim communities, especially in South Sumatra and generally in the archipelago in the areas of Sufism, Tauhid and important to defend the State. In the teachings of Abdusshamad al-Palimbani to his students and the works left behind his mind can be known. His thoughts were collected in various works;(a) HidayatusSalikin fi Suluk Maslak al-Muttaqiin, (b) SiyarusSalikinilaIbadatrabb al-alamin (c) Thufah Al-Raghibin fi Bayan Haqiqat Faith Al-Mu'inin, (d). Nasihat al-MusliminwaTadzkiratal Mu"minin fi Fadha"il Al-Jihad fi Sabilillah wa Karamat al-Mujahidin fi Sabilillah (e) Zuhrat al-Murid fi Bayan Kalimat al-Tauhid, (f) Al-Urwat al-WutsqawaSilsilatUli al-Ittiqa, (g) RatibAbdusShamad, (h) Zadd Al-Muttaqin fi TauhidRabb al-"Alamin. The spread of Islam is intended to encourage the community to always fill its days with remembrance and reverence; (a) protect yourself from the fire of hell (b) Allah favors you that God makes us out of those who call on His name, He does not make us blameless (c). be bright and open with the zikrullah light (d). to him the windows of heaven were opened (e). gentle heart and khusyu' (f). abolished it with one sentence from the remembrance of ten crimes.

Memasuki abad ke-17 merupakan periode yang normatif bagi pembentukan pikiran dan praktik tasawuf ... more Memasuki abad ke-17 merupakan periode yang normatif bagi pembentukan pikiran dan praktik tasawuf dan tarekat. Guruguru sufi terlibat aktif tidak hanya dalam mengintelektualisasi berbagai disiplin ilmu-ilmu keislaman tetapi juga gerakan reformasi praktik-praktik tasawuf yang harmonis dengan akidah dan syari'ah. Tulisan ini menganalisis karya-karya ulama Jambi yang turut merespon doktrin-doktrin tasawuf yang dipandang rumit tersebut. Pendekatan kajian ini adalah bersifat kronologi pemikiran tentang doktrin martabat tujuh dari sejak awal diperkenalkan hingga penyebarannya. Dalam konteks pemikiran Islam di Indonesia, kajian tentang ulama-ulama Jambi masih sangat jarang. Untuk itu, tulisan ini akan mengungkap beberapa karya ulama Jambi baik yang masih dalam bentuk manuskrip maupun cetak yang belum banyak dikenal. Tujuannya adalah sebagai teropong untuk melihat seberapa besar pengaruh pemikiran Islam dari pusat-pusat wacana Islam (the center of Islamic discourse), seperti Aceh, Palembang, dan Minangkabau, terhadap wilayah-wilayah lainnya di Indonesia.

Tulisan ini mengungkap petunjuk baru tentang silisilah Ahmad Khatib Sambas di dalam tarekat, khus... more Tulisan ini mengungkap petunjuk baru tentang silisilah Ahmad Khatib Sambas di dalam tarekat, khususnya, Naqsyabandiyah. Setiap pengikut tarekat meyakini bahwa ritual yang mereka amalkan berasal dari guru-guru terdahulu yang diterima sedemikian rupa dan terhubung sampai kepada Nabi. Kejelasan silsilah tersebut menjadi fondasi terbentuknya sebuah tarekat. Melalui penelusuran terhadap beberapa manuskrip Fath al-'Arifin (FA) menunjukkan bahwa Khatib Sambas adalah mursyid dan memiliki silsilah melalui Tarekat Qadiriyah maupun Naqsyabandiyah. Informasi tersebut diperoleh dari manuskrip FA yang ditemukan di Jambi. Penulisnya adalah 'Abd al-Wahid Palembang, khalifah Khatib Sambas. Namanya memang tidak dikenal di kalangan pengikut tarekat. Padahal karyanya memiliki informasi yang lebih lengkap tentang silsilah gurunya dan beberapa ajaran tarekat yang tidak ditemukan di dalam manuskrip FA lainnya.

Traditional Islamic education model does not only teach Islam but also provides practical knowled... more Traditional Islamic education model does not only teach Islam but also provides practical knowledge for modern life. The desire is a great opportunity, because Islamic education in Indonesia has diverse backgrounds, systems, and nomenclature, such as madrassas, boarding schools, rangkang, meunasah, and surau. The model of madrasah education and pesantren seems to be the most viable pedestal. Particularly the pesantren system, rooted in Javanese tradition, is the most widely influenced model of Islamic education in Indonesia. This paper discusses the struggle of madrasah and pesantren in Jambi, with a social-historical approach. The focus of research was on some of the most established madrassas in Jambi, which became the forerunner of other madrasah development in Jambi Province. The initial characteristics of Islamic education institutions in Jambi are madrasah. In practice, Madrasahs in Jambi have developed a traditional Islamic education model, characterized by the study of yellow books, the figures of the master teachers (kyai), students, and boarding schools. The characteristics are similar to the pesantren in Java; minus mosque. In the development, a sense of imbalance in responding to changes in the national education system has occured, especially those projected by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

This study argues that the trend of Muslim literatures could be seen in the proliferation of Islamic media in the public sphere. The study finds out that the dynamic of the Muslim activist literatures in Jambi have been mushroomed and popular. This study uses two methods: interview and framing analysis. The former is used in collecting the literatures, while the later is used in examining the content and discourse. Using framing analysis, the author will discuss and analyze some religious characteristics i. e. literal shari'a oriented, criticism against the Jew and Christian, and criticism against America. Thereby, some literature promote Islamic teachings radically and to keep fit in operating dakwah agenda through out the life.

The manuscripts are not huge. The seminal manuscript has produced since the early Jambi Sultanate in the mid-17 th century. Using historical and codicology perspective, this writing analyzes the origins, sources and usingthe manuscript. This research presented that Jambi's manuscript was emerging along with the dissemination of Islam. The close link that existed between Palembang and Jambi during sultanate had influenced manuscript production.A number of Palembang manuscripts had influenced Jambi.

The early history of the sultanate of Jambi roughly coincided with the advent of Islam, through precise dates are impossible. According to legends and Jambian folklore that the forefather of the sultan’s family had been a foreigner, originally from Turkey. In the nineteenth century, Turkey was seen as the embodiment of the Jambian ideal of near-divine strength and succor; and as savior in the times of emergency. Pada saat pembangunan masjid selesai, banyak pejuang yang lari ke masjid Al-Istiqomah, pada waktu itu Kuala Tungkal di kuasai oleh Belanda. Masjid Al-Istiqomah pada masa itu dijadikan tempat bersembunyi dan petahanan para pejuang. Masjid Al-Istiqomah terletak di kampung Pasar Rebo Desa Pantai Gading. Masjid Al-Istiqomah memiliki Arsitektur bernuansa Jawa, dilihat dari bentuk arsitektur atapnya yang memiliki kesamaan dengan masjid Agung Demak. Bentuk atap yang bertingkat dan memiliki 8 tiang utama. Ruangan masjid hanya terdiri dari dua ruangan, yang pertama ruang utama, dan ruang serambi. This article aims to explore in new perspective the development of Islam in Jambi. The inexhaustible subject and problem, for instance, is that concerning the arrival and the spread of Islam in Jambi. This problem, which is to a certain degree sound very classical, deals with to when Islam arrived in the region, who were its bearers, where it came from, and how the early Muslim community organized their lives according to Islamic injunction.

The clearance of lineage is the foundation of a tarekat establishment. This paper tries to elaborate a new light about the lineage of Ahmad Khatib Sambas in the tarekat especially tarekat Naqsabandiyah.Based on exploring the manuscript Fath al-‘Arifin, the author shows that Ahmad Khatib Sambas is a spiritual guru (mursyid) for tarekat that has linked with tarekat Qadiriah as well as tarekat Naqsabandiyah. Manuscript of Fath al-‘Arifin was found in Jambi recently. The author of the manuscript is ‘Abd al-Wahid Palembang, khalifah Khatib Sambas. The name is not well known for most of sufi order member, but his writing is very important to inform the lineage of his guru as well as many other tarekat teachings that never found in any other manuscript Fath al-‘Arifin.
