It lies at 23 º 1' North and 72 º 37' East on the banks of the Sabarmati River. The city is in the region of North Gujarat, which is a plain, dry and sandy area, having maximum and minimum temperatures in the range between 44.3 º to 46.6 º and 4.8 º to 8.4 º C. The altitude of the city shows only marginal variations (46.6m to 50.9m). Except for the small hills of Thaltej-Jodhpur Tekra, the entire surroundings of the city are flat. The population of the Ahmedabad Urban Area (UA) in 2001 was recorded as 4.5 million. Increasing industrialization and economic development has resulted in the steep rise in the population and consequently has also resulted into the degradation of environment. City is left with limited natural resources like open spaces, water bodies, and places for social gathering. Here, urban water bodies plays multifunctional role. Large number of Natural Water Bodies (NWBs), which were once the inherent part of the city life, lost in the wake of development. The unauthorized and unchecked water withdrawal has led to the severe problems of its fast depleting ground water resource. Situation of NWBs in the city, in the recent past, has been very grim, with ever-decreasing number of water bodies/ talavs (ponds). In 1865 there were 218 NWBs, which fell to 132 in 1975 and further down to 62 in 2001.

With this technique, liquid wastes are injected into a well located in a type of rock formation that keeps the waste isolated from groundwater and surface water. Other underground burial methods are also used for hazardous industrial waste and other types of dangerous waste. Hazardous wastes are disposed of at specially designed landfills and incinerators. This paper highlights the various sources of industrial wastes and its consequences on environment degradation. This paper also highlights latest developments in utilization of industrial wastes in different parts of the world.

Putting into practice a few simple, convenient ways to conserve energy will also helps to trim utility bills. Not only does energy efficiency reduce or avoid greenhouse emissions, but it can also increase productivity and sustainability through the delivery of energy savings, and support social development by increasing employment and energy security.

This paper focuses on the optimization of multistep deep drawing process by using simulation software. Here, a case studied of cylindrical shaped aluminum container. The main challenge of optimization process is to reduce number of drawing step, therefore the production cost and time will decrease and product life will increase. Many process parameters and other factors that affected production quality produced by the deep drawing process. Recent development and research work in the process of deep drawing is shown in the paper. A three stage deep drawing process has considered as a case study to optimize the sizes such as punch and die corner radius, friction, clearance. The objective of this paper is to use ABAQUS simulation software for multistep deep drawing process. Also the paper shows that...

In today’s world, the supply chain is a multi-faceted ecosystem linking product development, manufacturing and distribution networks into one fully transparent and digitized system. With multiple streams to take into account, by bringing their supply chain online manufacturers have been able to reap the benefits of a fully automated and integrated supply chain from the very beginning. In the near future, machines will be programmed to build bespoke products from scratch—products that meet exactly their specific needs. A manufacturing director needs a very specific spare to repair his main production machine—simply click a button to instruct a machine to tailor the spare resulting in production with greater precision than the original. This is not science fiction—the building blocks of this model all exist today. This paper highlights the impact of IT applications in supply chain management activities in various industries around the world.

In this paper, experimental study was conducted to observe the power consumption of different environmental friendly refrigerant mixtures (HC mixture and R401a). It was also observed the effect of working parameters like diameter of capillary tube, working pressures and inlet water temperatures, which affect the power consumption of vapour compression refrigeration system. It was observed that R401a consumed more power than HC mixture and R134a, but there is less mass quantity of HC mixture and R401a is required in the same system. So there is less effect in environment due to leakage.
Hybrid laser-arc welding, originally proposed in the 1970s, but more recently of renewed interest... more Hybrid laser-arc welding, originally proposed in the 1970s, but more recently of renewed interest, combines deep penetration keyhole laser welding with an arc welding process in a single process zone. The hybrid process offers the benefits of the separate processes, and overcomes some of their respective drawbacks, such as the lower tolerance to joint fit up of laser welding, or the higher heat input of arc welding, which increases distortion and subsequent re-work costs. These costs have been estimated to be up to 15-30% of the total labour cost for new construction. Consequently, hybrid welding is already applied in some industries, including shipbuilding, as well as being extensively researched for a variety of materials and industrial applications. For hybrid welding of steel plates, high power output CO2 lasers have typically been used. This paper presents an investigation about hybrid laser-MIG welding in construction steels .An introduction about welding processes involved in...

Cost of production can be minimizing by reducing amount of waste, scrap and rejection of material in the production. The amount of scrap can be reduced by efficient nesting. This study is carried for effective nesting for laser cutting operation. The laser gas is formed by the mixture of CO2, He and N2 in the ratio of 61%, 5% and 12% respectively. Parts considered for the study is of thickness 4mm to 10mm. the parameters considered for the study are Common Line Cutting, Numbers of Piercing, Thickness of Materials and Length of Cutting. By effective nesting in AutoCAD 5.33% scrap is minimized, Number of components increased by 4 and loss of Rs.549.78 is minimized.

By continuous and rapid growth in industrialization as well as population, the agricultural lands... more By continuous and rapid growth in industrialization as well as population, the agricultural lands are also becoming less and less continuously day by day which results in increase in the population of small land holders. In addition to this, because of continuous decreasing production the youth of the villages are also migrating in big cities for the employment, resulting decreasing manpower essential to perform various seedbed operations in the villages. Hence, it is the need of time for small farmers having small agricultural land and having less crop production to introduce the cost-effective farm mechanization so that they can improve production rate. Rotavator is the best option available to achieve this landmark as it is already proved that seedbed prepared by using rotavator gives highest benefit to cost ratio. For this experimental study the whole land of 9 acre area is divided into 18 plots of equal size in area. The combination of method of seedbed preparation and use of f...

Method/Approach: In this experiment the entire 9 acre land is divided into 18 equal plots. The combination of seedbed preparation and fertilizers are finalised in 9 different categories. Two plots were selected randomly for each combination of seedbed preparation and fertilizer for the experiment, and the final product is combined to measure the total output and to compare which is the best combination. The chemical fertilizer used is divided into three categories according to their proportion one is as per the guidelines of Ministry of Agriculture, central government, India; i.e. 50kg per acre, other quantity is much lesser than the guidelines i.e. 35kg per acre and last one is according to actual farmers practice in the region i.e. 65kg per acre. The quantity of organic fertilizer used is 45kg per acre and 60kg per acre for both seedbed preparations were done by manually and by using rotavator. Findings/Observations: The maximum production of Pigeon Pea of 814kg was obtained from plot whose seedbed is prepared by using rotavator and organic fertilizer followed by 802 kg from the plot whose seedbed is prepared by using rotavator and chemical fertilizer was used. The minimum Pigeon Pea production of 690kg was obtained from the plot whose seedbed was prepared manually and chemical fertilizer was used. Applications/ Improvements: Use of rotavator for seedbed preparation for sowing and organic fertilizers can be used for every conventional as well as cash crop. Seedbed preparation by using rotavator gives better pulverisation which affects in higher crops productivity also organic fertilizers eliminates the chances of soil and water pollution which results in achieving higher benefit to cost ratio for farmers.
