Considering its high level of usage among the younger individuals, social media may provide a unique method of learning for dental students. However, the perception of dental educators on the usage of social media and networking sites is unknown. Hence, this study was conducted to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of dental faculty and residents toward social media use in dental education. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Government Dental College and Hospital, Mumbai, from November 2019 to December 2019. The questionnaire was prepared and validated before conducting the study. All the faculty members and the residents of the college were included in the study. The questionnaire was based on three dimensions (knowledge, attitude, and practice) and assessed the views of participants on the social media usage. Results: A total of 65 participants were included in the study, where 32 were faculty members and 33 were residents. The mean age of the participants was 31.52 ± 6.589. Out of the total, 26 (40%) participants were male and 39 (60%) were female. The mean experience of the study participants was 4.71 ± 5.997. The responses were compared between residents and faculty and the responses were similar for most knowledge, attitude, and practice question. The residents were keener on looking forward to developing social media as a primary aid in dental education compared to the faculty (P = 0.029). Conclusion: Due to ease of use and widespread applicability, social media now has a great potential to deliver educational content. This study demonstrates the positive responses of the faculty towards social media usage and further enhances traditional education.

Lip prints can be observed in various crime scenes. Similarly, blood groups once established in an individual remains unchanged throughout the life. We carried out a study to know the relationship between lip print, blood groups and gender of the person. Material and Method: For the study 160 subjects were taken among them 80 were male and 80 were female of age group 20 30 years. Lip prints were collected by using corporate invisible tape and analyzed by hand lens. Capillary blood was drawn by finger prick with a lancet and blood group was determined by slide agglutination method Results: The most common type of lip print pattern was Type I’ followed by type IV. The most common type of blood group was O+ followed by B+. The gender distribution in lip print pattern showed Type I and I’ were common among females and Type IV and I’ in males. Among blood group...

However, the exact contribution of each of these components in the overall balance of translation kinetics remains not fully understood. We created an in vitro translation system Escherichia coli replacing either elongation factor with heterologous thermophilic protein from Thermus thermophilus. The rates of the A-site binding and decoding reactions decreased an order of magnitude in the presence of thermophilic EF-Tu, indicating that the kinetics of aminoacyl-tRNA delivery depends on the properties of the elongation factor. On the contrary, thermophilic EF-G demonstrated the same translocation kinetics as a mesophilic protein. Effects of translocation inhibitors (spectinomycin, hygromycin B, viomycin and streptomycin) were also similar for both proteins. Thus, the process of translocation largely relies on the interaction of tRNAs and the r...

Using various biochemical assays, we showed that these CAM-Cn-TPP compounds bind to the bacterial ribosome, inhibit protein synthesis in vitro and in vivo in a way similar to that of the parent CHL, and significantly reduce membrane potential. Similar to CAM-C4-TPP, the mode of action of CAM-C10-TPP and CAM-C14-TPP in bacterial ribosomes differs from that of CHL. By simulating the dynamics of CAM-Cn-TPP complexes with bacterial ribosomes, we proposed a possible explanation for the specificity of the action of these analogs in the translation process. CAM-C10-TPP and CAM-C14-TPP more strongly inhibit the growth of the Gram-positive bacteria, as compared to CHL, and suppress some CHL-resistant...

Aim: This study aims to assess dental laser education and knowledge among students from dental colleges of Mumbai and Pune city. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 150 randomly selected dental students from four dental colleges of Mumbai and Pune city using a questionnaire. Results: All the 150 participants knew what dental laser was, but when asked about the practical experience, only 10 (6.7%) participants had previous dental laser practice experience. Around 126 (84%) participants agreed that both theoretical and practical laser education is needed. Lack of clinical experience (35.3%) followed by lack of knowledge (25.1%) and price of laser unit (22.5%) were the main reasons for the lack of use of dental lasers according to the study participants. Conclusion: Undergraduate dental students had inadequate laser education and insufficient knowledge regarding dental lasers. More education about dental lasers should be added to the curriculum of undergraduate program since it is highly essential for students to know about newer technologies and apply it in their practice.

It is imperative to judiciously manage these situation in clinical setting. Having correct knowledge about the medical emergencies and the management methods are crucial successful clinical practice. AIM: To assess the knowledge and experience about medical Emergencies among Dental interns in Bangalore City. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross sectional study was conducted among 350 dental Interns from sixteen dental colleges in Bangalore City using a structured questionnaire consisting of 14 item questions. RESULTS: Syncope being the most commonly encountered medical emergency (79.14%), followed by hypoglycaemia(17.14%). About 49.71% respondents considered medical emergency training was moderate. 98% of them think that medical emergencies training is important. Knowledge of the presence of drugs and equipments in the emergency drug kit and the confidence with regard to using them was not satisfactory. CONCLUSION:...
